What is the opportunity?

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Insider Risk and Asset Protection Director within the greater Toronto area. The role focusses on identifying, assessing, and protecting assets including applications, intellectual property and physical infrastructure working across departments within a cross functional team. A key part of the role will be ongoing control reviews and oversight, a need to engage with technical and business teams while working with stakeholders to help better control coverage based on the likelihood of potential exposure. The incumbent will be responsible to ensure risk and controls are managed, sustainable and maintained. The role will also be responsible to help aggregate risk reporting and metrics, while and socializing these across risk and governance functions.

What will you do?

  • Develop and drive risk-based controls to detect and prevent unauthorized access, mishandling and misuse while ensure monitoring practices are enhanced.

  • Conduct regular review of higher-risk application areas to ensure compliance with protections, policies, and standards.

  • Communicate improvement and enhancements at all reporting levels.

  • Review and recommend enhanced controls while engaging teams to help mature relevant data analytics and oversight functions.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with risk and operational partners.

  • Track and manage issues findings until remediated.

  • Create, manage and maintain sustainable procedure and process documentation.

  • Establish, lead and manage a team to help deliver ongoing protection and oversight needs across RBC.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • A practical understanding of data protection risks, exposures and effective controls to help mitigate them.

  • 3+ years of risk management experience.

  • Experience with behavior-based monitoring and technology.

  • Staying up to date on emerging threats, trends, and technologies on insider risk management.

  • Experience managing, engaging and tracking large scale application assessments.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.

  • A willingness to make a difference and to help maintain and build trust.

  • Audit, operational support, data protection or governance experience.

Nice-to-have:

  • Industry related certification - e.g. CASP+/CISSP/CISA

  • Knowledge of financial services business line(s) and associated applications and processes.

  • Information Technology standards, methodologies, and audit requirements.
