What is the opportunity?

The Director works closely with the VP as strategic advisors to the CFO and key CFO Group and enterprise partners on a range of internal and external communications, including articulating RBC's financial and strategic story through the delivery of its quarterly earnings and annual report. The successful candidate also leads a team of two in driving CFO Group employee engagement through creative and compelling content and employee events that tell the story of how this critical enterprise function creates value for RBC's clients, shareholders and communities, and in shining a light on its talented colleagues across the globe.

What will you do?

  • Advise the CFO and other CFO Group leaders on strategic internal and external communications opportunities.
  • Meaningfully contribute to articulating RBC's financial and strategic story through the delivery of the bank's quarterly earnings and its annual report.
  • Lead the team in delivering compelling and create internal communications and engagement events that highlight our colleagues and how the team creates value for RBC.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to build the CFO's brand through internal and external channels, including LinkedIn.
  • Manage media relations and reputational matters associated with the function
  • Provide direct reports with coaching, feedback and development opportunities that set them up for success and enable their professional growth.
  • Partner fluidly with Corporate Communications colleagues in amplifying key enterprise themes and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the success of RBC Brand, Marketing, Communications & Citizenship's overarching goals, including instilling a strong ONE RBC culture.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 10+ years of strategic communications or public relations experience at a financial institution or matrixed global professional services organization.
  • Extensive executive-level internal and external strategic communications experience.
  • Results-oriented, strategic thinking skills and a collaborative and creative approach to building consensus and partnering with colleagues across the organization.
  • Media and issues management experience coupled with an ability to distill complex information into plain language.
  • People management experience with a deep commitment to team enablement, coaching and development.
  • A strong grasp of current events, business news and the media landscape, and an understanding of how the evolving external environment impacts RBC and the financial industry.

Nice-to-have

  • Undergraduate degree/post-graduate certificate or equivalent in communications, public relations, journalism, public affairs, English or related field
  • Canadian Securities Course
  • Experience with financial reporting and delivering shareholder or other stakeholder reports
