Key responsibilities

  • Will be working on providing content for BMO GAMs diverse set of clients
  • To support the senior strategist in regular publications - and take ownership of a few of those publications over time
  • To support the senior strategist on idea generation and to discuss relevant views and topics to be covered in reports
  • To develop quantitative models related to market movements and also on ETFs
  • To maintain economic models and to contextualize them for others
  • To support the distribution team on sales pitches, idea generation, and other requests related to client needs
  • To support the PM team in developing predictive analytics and talking points
  • Work with the product team to create content for targeted products
  • To appear on podcasts related to the BMO GAM brands
  • To eventually grow into a thought leader in the BMO GAM eco-system

Strong Assets:

  • 5-6 years of experience in the capital markets and/or investment management areas.
  • Bachelors degree in economics, and/or finance.
  • MBA or CFA is preferred
  • Strong quantitative skills (R, Python preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in French (oral and written) is highly desirable

Develops investment ideas, investment themes, and asset allocation recommendations that are used by other investment areas within the firm. Generates investment ideas but does not manage portfolios. Provides input to strategic decision making. Supports new product and business development.

  • Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives.
  • Assists in the development of strategic plans.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
  • Manages databases and provides support for analysis, forecasting and/or data visualization, ensuring adherence with data governance standards.
  • Develops and recommends strategies to achieve investment goals of the organisation and / or its clients.
  • Creates frameworks for analysing alternative investment and risk scenarios (e.g. overall investment return, interplay of various asset classes or securities, comparative market returns).
  • Forecasts market changes based on economic and industry analyses; monitors technical trading trends.
  • May help develop and market investment products, services and solutions.
  • Contributes to business development in client and industry facing activities and events.
  • Continuously pursues and identifies potential risk within our business and processes.
  • Understands and adheres to all compliance requirements; ensures supporting documentation is maintained.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Qualifications:

  • Typically between 6 - 8 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of relevant investment certifications.
  • Advanced understanding of business line and a growing understanding of the overall firm and the competitive environment.
  • Advanced understanding of specialized discipline and gaining understanding of other disciplines.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

Salary:

$88,400.00 - $163,800.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
