The Director - Financial Reporting is a key leader in Enterprise Controllers' Group, and will be responsible for leading, managing, and empowering a team of accounting and finance professionals, whilst managing the financial control and reporting responsibilities across consolidated disclosures. You will play a key role in establishing best practices in CFO Group's control framework, as well as collaborate with various Finance and functional teams and support senior leaders across CFO group and Enterprise.

What will you do?

Lead a talented and motivated team responsible for consolidated RBC reporting and controls, including analyses and insights for senior management across Finance:

  • Ensure the accurate preparation of RBC's financial statements and information, in compliance with relevant accounting standards, including the timely reporting of our monthly/quarterly results, and production of key disclosures for consumption by senior management, functional partners, and contribution to external reporting materials.
  • Responsible for managing and enabling financial control infrastructure, such as reporting hierarchies, financial system enablement, and month-end close requirements. Ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement of infrastructure to maximize efficiency, enhancing value-added capabilities for reporting and strengthen control environment.
  • Provide key financial analysis, variance reports, and performance metrics to support decision-making and communication of RBC's financial and strategic story.
  • Research and provide technical accounting guidance, addressing specific technical accounting queries raised by stakeholders. This includes communication to senior management globally through issue life cycle - from identification to implementation and monitoring, and consideration of existing policies and controls.
  • Manage internal control and governance framework, including setting standards for key control activities and optimization of SOX and non-SOX process. Apply risk-based approach where appropriate to implement control activities, identify emerging risk areas, and maintain an overall strong internal control environment.
  • Lead and mentor the financial reporting team, ensuring team's professional development, skill enhancement and goal achievement.
  • Foster collaboration and high performance with key stakeholders (e.g., Head Office Performance Management, IT, Group Risk Management, Accounting Policy, Tax, Capital and other Finance partners) striving to be a center of knowledge and excellence with accountability in resolving all HO finance related issues.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • CPA designation or equivalent, with 10+ years of experience, and understanding of key disclosure requirements and SOX compliance
  • Strong team and people management abilities, and ability to play a leadership role across a wide group of peers
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Curiosity to explore better ways of working and motivating the team while maintaining a strong governance mindset, accompanied by a drive to take ownership for and resolve issues with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to multitask and handle high-pressure executive level requests on an ongoing basis
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to influence stakeholders and mobilize cross-functional groups to deliver on common goals
  • Superior organizational and problem solving skills
  • Able to consistently exercise independent thought and judgment and adapt to new tasks quickly
  • Strong interpersonal skills, due to frequent interaction with Finance Senior Management and External Auditors, with the ability to explain complex issues in a concise and meaningful manner.

  • Experience and understanding of RBCs businesses and transactions, and associated risks & returns.
  • Proactive and persistent in issue resolution
