Purpose:

The Director, Telecom, Media, Technology and Healthcare (TMTH) will be primarily responsible for business development and execution of merger and acquisition advisory and equity financing mandates in the Telecom, Media, Technology and Healthcare sectors. Working with our experienced investment banking professionals, you will be able to leverage your experience, network and industry specialties in these sectors to originate high quality transactions for the firm. In addition, you will be responsible for the leadership, growth and development of Associates and Analysts in TMTH group reporting to you.

What You'll Do:

  • Maintain a broad awareness of industry changes and global economics that will affect our client base
  • Identify probable sources of new business including companies, countries and emerging issues
  • Generate ideas to prepare and present business development pitches with the objective originate business
  • Ability to work with a long term relationship strategy in mind when addressing client requirements.
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to complex client financing requirements.
  • Prepare and present business development pitches, which will require ongoing travel
  • Cross-sell various GBM products such as DCM, derivatives, F/X, and deposits
  • Coordinate execution of mandates and utilize expertise as required
  • Understand client and market requirements
  • Coordinate and manage transaction processes as required
  • Negotiate and close transactions with excellent execution skills
  • Share client information with team members and promote collaborative and cohesive working relationships with colleagues from other departments / geographies within Scotiabank's platform
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of banking professionals
  • Set and monitor objectives and performance targets for junior staff
  • Coach individuals to improve their overall level of performance and provide regular feedback and performance appraisals


What You'll Bring:

  • Ideal candidate will possess a relevant bachelor's degree, or equivalent qualification and have an excellent academic and professional record
  • MBA and a CFA or equivalent designation is an asset
  • 1-2 years of experience in a Director, Investment Banking capacity
  • Demonstrated skills in developing, maintaining and strengthening business relations with existing and new clients in the Telecom, Media, Technology and Healthcare sectors
  • Strong leadership skills and a desire and interest in managing and providing mentorship to a small group of corporate finance and technical professionals
  • Strong business development skills, as a motivated self-starter, independent business developer and strong negotiator
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, solid research skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment and/or independently.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • skills and an ability to develop rapport and credibility with senior level clients
  • Unquestioned personal integrity and values
  • Creative thinker capable of identifying potential opportunities and capitalizing on them

Work Arrangement:
This position is largely an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 4-5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business. Domestic travel may be required for up to 20% of your role.
