What is the opportunity?

A unique leadership opportunity within Royal Trust to oversee tax advisory and compliance work for the estates and trusts business while also working with senior management on the design and implementation of strategic and operational initiatives impacting tax, estate and trust administration in a dynamic and evolving industry.

What will you do?

  • Lead the National Tax Services team and provide oversight to ensure timely and accurate tax return filings for Royal Trust accounts

  • Be responsible for monitoring tax changes, analyzing impact to the business and provide timely tax communications to Royal Trust staff and informational articles to increase understanding of tax matters

  • Act as primary contact for National Tax team and regional staff for the escalation of technical tax matters and provide technical support through the delivery of advice, research and analysis.

  • Ensure that policies, procedures and any internal and external forms or documents related to tax are relevant, effectively manage risk and contain appropriate monitoring and control oversight.

  • Continuous improvement approach to achieving a superior team performance, including proactive monitoring of key deliverables and deadlines.

  • Sets and reinforces standards around internal and external client and partner communications, which include email, phone or in-person interaction with clients.

  • Demonstrate commitment to take ownership of client concerns at first point of contact ensuring the escalation process for Client Problem Resolution is followed creating a differentiated client experience.

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves:

  • 10 - 15 years related experience in tax advisory services and tax compliance

  • CA/CPA Designation

  • Knowledge of Canadian income tax rules applicable to estate and trusts

  • Knowledge of Common Law / Civil code relative to the Estate, Trust and Agency business

  • Knowledge of financial services, securities industry including trading, settlement and Corporate Change Announcement processes

  • Experience with Corporate taxation and cross border taxation expertise

Nice-to-have:

  • TEP Designation Preferred

  • Bilingualism French and English
