The Director contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Banking Finance, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Director, Product Finance will lead a small, high-impact team and report to CFO of Tangerine. A key purpose of the role will support strong rigor around Tangerine business line financials with direct accountability for business line results and forecasting for a $50Bn product portfolio and supporting over $1Bn in revenue. This team will take a business line focused approach and work closely with and complement the existing Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team within Tangerine.

The Director will own all matters related to treasury, including distribution of product funds transfer pricing (FTP) rates from treasury to the business lines in order to support timely, comprehensive and robust pricing decisions, including knowledge of key factors impacting these rates. The Director will also support deep dives or additional requests into treasury-related, business lines or product questions as required and act as an advocate for Tangerine to ensure accurate value is being ascribed to all assets & deposits.

As a member of the Tangerine Finance leadership team, this Director will also support ad hoc projects, as well general support around the implementation of Tangerine Finance's technology roadmap where it pertains to this team.

The Director will work directly with and support the Tangerine Executive Leadership Team and key stakeholders across both Tangerine and Canadian Banking Finance. This individual will also present relevant financial updates to the Tangerine Board of Directors as required.

Is this role right for you? In this role you, will

  • Actively lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Actively work with Scotiabank Treasury, ensuring all relevant business updates are being communicated, particularly where there are potential implications to bank funding. Stay up-to-date on potential changes to FTP, market rates and macro conditions, ensuring rates received are accurate and in-line with any changes and observations within product portfolios.
  • Lead all matters related to treasury, including distribution of product funds transfer pricing (FTP) rates from treasury to the business lines in order to support timely, comprehensive and robust pricing decisions, including knowledge of key factors impacting these rates.
  • Lead deep dives or additional requests into treasury-related items and act as an advocate for Tangerine to ensure accurate value is being ascribed to all assets & deposits.
  • Provide relevant financial updates to both Tangerine and Scotiabank senior executives and the Tangerine Board of Directors as required.
  • Accountability for all business lines financial models to ensure latest business line inputs and economic assumptions are being used to derive the most accurate and up-to-date forecasts as possible. All models are reviewed and refined on a regular basis (e.g. quarterly) in partnership with the business lines
  • Recommend pricing and other relevant recommendations in order to maximize shareholder value and build long-term sustainable competitive advantages within Tangerine.
  • Assist in developing front-end data visualization tools and dashboards (e.g. Looker Studio, Power BI, etc.) in order to directly support the Tangerine Executive Leadership Team's ability to understand our financial results and make critical and timely business decisions. In addition, enable both the business lines and broader Tangerine team to have access to key financial results, targets and insights relevant to their function.
  • Actively work toward ways to bring the Tangerine & Canadian Banking finance teams together, including use of secure technologies to enable easier and more automated flow of critical data and information between the two entities (e.g. Tangerine and Scotiabank Treasury). Work closely with Scotiabank finance teams supporting Tangerine to better understand and continually solve technology roadblocks.
  • Provide support for Tangerine's finance technology roadmap in order to directly support rapid growth in Tangerine that is projected as the bank executes on its comprehensive 5-year growth strategy (Investor Day 2023).
  • Provide support for finance risk and operations work, projects, regulatory initiatives and all internal & external audit activities as required.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Relevant experience at a financial institution, leading complex, multi-facet projects, process improvement initiatives and/or technology roadmaps
