What is the opportunity?

As part of the Group Risk Management (GRM) team, the Director Automotive Finance Risk Modeling plays a pivotal role in the development and optimization of risk models which support the adjudication of automotive financing loans.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing predictive risk models, a deep understanding of indirect automotive lending business across risk spectrum (prime to subprime), and the ability to leverage complex data to drive insights and decision-making

What will you do?

  • Accountable for leading and directing risk modeling team for indirect automotive lending and credit card portfolios and pricing for all books to ensure they build innovative, predictive models for both Consumer and Small Business that balance growth and risk. These statistical models support the origination, portfolio management, collections, stress testing and Basel areas. The incumbent must ensure that the models deliver business results that support prudent risk management practice by overseeing the evaluation and monitoring of model quality and their impact on business profitability.
  • Leverages deep expertise in full-spectrum (from prime to subprime) automotive financing portfolio credit risk behavior to better guide the team on the development of predictive risk models.
  • Leverages deep modeling and industry/business expertise to guide the team to establish priorities for new and innovative models that deliver improvements delinquency, loss prevention, loan growth, profitability optimization and regulatory capital calculation. This includes exploring opportunities to leverage the mathematical optimization capabilities.
  • Responding to ad-hoc queries from the business related to models (credit scoring) and make recommendations.
  • Responsible for ongoing monitoring and updates to relevant documents (eg. Credit Scoring Framework, model inventory etc.).
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for retail credit risk modelling and manage a team capable of fulfilling all retail credit risk modelling needs and advisory

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Strong experience in risk management, with a solid understanding of the Retail Lending business such as Auto Finance and Credit Cards, including product economics.
  • Strong experience in the development of risk model predicting the risk of non-prime/subprime consumers.
  • Deep knowledge of third-party external data used in credit risk modeling and analytics such as credit bureau and DealerTrack data for automotive finance.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in financial services, having recent senior level positions, and a full awareness of the strategic issues and opportunities facing the industry.
  • Deep knowledge of advanced statistical tools as well as an ability to use these tools effectively in credit strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, innovate and make strategic decisions.
  • Ability to generate unique, actionable insights & recommendations from analytics and use strong presentation skills to develop a compelling business case for them in from of senior management
  • Experience in developing a Test & Learn Environment and knowledge of designing & executing comprehensive Foundational Testing
  • Deep knowledge and experience with robust data infrastructure of model development and analytics.
  • Strong people management skills with a proven ability to lead a team of highly talented individuals and deliver results.
  • Demonstrate Strategic business sense & thought leadership to come up with unique ideas to enhance portfolio profitability & improve risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of the various Retail Lending acquisition channels and the unique risks associated with each.
  • Strong knowledge of collections & other account management processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-unit & cross-functional cooperation and information sharing.
  • Solid communication and presentation skills with the integrity and confidence to liaise with senior executives.
  • University degree in a quantitative field of study (e.g., statistics, engineering, economics, mathematical finance) - to demonstrate ability for critical thinking & numerical analytics.
