Purpose:

The Director of Securities Clearing is responsible for strategically managing Securities Clearing operations within Global Wholesale Operations, ensuring alignment with business priorities and operational excellence. The position focuses on developing and executing strategies that maintain high operational efficiency, effectively manage risks, optimize performance, and support the organization's strategic objectives through robust systems, processes, and people management practices.

This role is critical in driving operational effectiveness by identifying and addressing performance challenges, maintaining key controls, and ensuring the Securities Clearing function can successfully adapt to internal and external changes while meeting organizational goals.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  1. Strategic Collaboration and Gap Analysis
  • Work closely with senior management to understand business plans and priorities
  • Assess current Securities Clearing capabilities
  • Identify and drive resolution of material capability gaps
  • Provide specialized operational processing insights
  1. Complex Project Management
  • Direct multi-faceted projects across geographic locations
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external service providers
  • Implement new processes, systems solutions, and controls
  1. Global Securities Clearing Process and Policy Direction
  • Influence and direct Securities Clearing processes across NY, London, and Singapore
  • Support multiple business lines including Fixed Income, Global Equities, Derivatives, and Prime Services
  • Ensure global operational efficiency and compliance with regulations
  1. Staff Management and Development
  • Manage and develop subordinate staff
  • Ensure efficient operations and objective attainment
  1. Operational Efficiency and Continuous Improvement
  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness
  • Manage operational problem resolution
  • Stay informed about industry and internal initiatives
  • Participate in training, planning sessions, and industry committees
  1. Industry Representation
  • Represent Scotiabank in industry committees and working groups
  • Collect and report industry developments
  • Advocate for Scotiabank's interests and resolve key risk issues

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years senior management experience in securities, banking, or financial services
  • Expertise in securities clearing, settlements, and operations
  • Experience in coaching and performance management
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of:
    • Banking operational and compliance policies
    • Industry standards and infrastructure regulations
    • Securities settlement processes
    • Multi-depository and multi-time zone operations
  • Proficient in banking systems and technology platforms
  • Strategic thinking and change management capabilities

Work Arrangement: This position is currently a Hybrid role. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
