Job Description:

We are looking for a Director, Sustainability Reporting and Disclosures, who can use their passion for sustainability to demonstrate, through high-quality reporting and disclosures, Sun Life's progress in embedding sustainability in everything we do to create competitive advantage for our business and have a positive impact on society.

Sustainability reporting and disclosures is a dynamic and rapidly evolving field with diverse stakeholders, requests and requirements. The Director, Sustainability Reporting and Disclosures will help: modernize our digital-first reporting approach across Sun Life's suite of sustainability disclosures including the annual sustainability report; continue to deliver best-in-class sustainability reporting; identify gaps and develop insights within the reporting landscape to inform strategy enhancements; and stay on top of new and evolving expectations and developments.

As a leader on our Sustainability Reporting and Disclosures team, you'll manage a team of high-performing individuals and work with colleagues from business groups and functions across Sun Life's global operations to produce high-quality disclosures. An important component to the role will be to continuously enhance reporting practices with an eye to the future of reporting.

Our ideal candidate has strong people management expertise, analytical skills and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. This is a hybrid role requiring presence at our 1 York office on a regular basis.

What will you do?

  • Lead the development of the annual sustainability report and stakeholder materiality assessment, including engagement with subject matter experts across the business
  • Enhance our digital-first approach to reporting, driving opportunities to report sustainability progress to stakeholders throughout the year
  • Lead the development of disclosures for a range of external assessments including MSCI, Sustainalytics, S&P Global, CDP and others
  • Proactively identify opportunities and provide strategic guidance to enhance sustainability reporting practices to meet growing disclosure requirements and changing stakeholder views
  • Influence and engage colleagues from business groups and functions across Sun Life's global operations to enhance quality of disclosures
  • Support the development of internal presentations to senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Effectively communicate insights, ideas and strategies in a clear, compelling and concise manner (both written and verbal)
  • Manage and develop a team of high performing individuals

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 6 years relevant business experience ideally within insurance, asset management or other financial services; experience in/or knowledge of Sun Life's business is an asset
  • Experience in corporate sustainability reporting and familiarity with ESG ratings and assessments strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to successfully work with a variety of team members and colleagues, and function in a dynamic environment
  • Comfort with ambiguity and complex processes
  • Capable of synthesizing large amounts of data to develop insights and recommendations
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
  • Results-oriented individual and an innovative, lateral thinker
  • Experience leading people
  • Experience working in a complex, matrix organization and managing key stakeholders
  • Familiarity with ESG-related standards and frameworks including GRI, SASB, TCFD and the developing ISSB standards would be an asset
  • Experience in areas such as data management, processes and controls would be an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
