What is the opportunity?

This specialized Director, VC Coverage, RBCx role is for a relationship management leader and business development professional with experience in the venture capital (VC) ecosystem. As Director, you will lead the Fund Banking team, supporting our VC clients, while building strategic relationships within the broader venture community to drive growth. This role requires stewarding RBCx in market, fostering strong relationships amongst the ecosystem, and providing insights and guidance to investors and internal bank partners.

What will you do?

  • Lead the Fund Banking team, championing sales and market management practices to deliver superior client experience
  • Build and maintain industry relationships within the Canadian tech and venture capital ecosystems
  • Lead the implementation of strategic initiatives and actively pursue market opportunities across the nation, ensuring RBCx grows its market share leadership position
  • Act as the point person for the Fund Banking team, working closely with Banking and Credit Advisory, to manage clients, opportunities, and investment goals
  • Develop relevant programming and insights for the RBCx and RBC communities
  • Engage key market investors, particularly those who play a significant role in influencing client acquisition, retention, and cross-selling decisions.
  • Provide impactful and relevant programming and insights to investors, utilizing scalable methods to showcase the full range of the company's resources.
  • Identify key relationship interdependencies and act as the coordinator across RBCx Banking and Fund Banking teams involved with those relationships.
  • Work closely with the RBCx Banking and Fund Banking teams on targeted portfolio company opportunities and strategic investment goals.
  • Act as a key resource and collaborator for internal colleagues across RBCx Banking and Fund Banking, providing guidance on market trends and specific, actionable investor insights.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., finance, business, economics, engineering)
  • 10-15 years of experience in banking or venture capital ecosystem
  • Existing relationships in the Canadian VC and innovation ecosystem
  • Strategic, big picture thinker with the ability to identify opportunities and lead across departments to drive value for our clients and RBCx

Nice-to-have

  • Venture tech experience
  • Experience in the coaching and development of high performance teams
  • Bilingual in French / English
