Reports to: Clinical Research Manager
Hours: 37.5 Hours Per Week
Salary: $56,882 - $71,097 Per Annum (To Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy)
Shifts: Monday - Friday
Status: Permanent Full Time

Position Summary:

The Financial Analyst I (FAI) performs a wide range of accounting activities requiring application of accounting concepts, principles and practices. The FAI will be a key support to the Principal Investigators and Clinical Research Manager within the Drug Development Program - Phase I the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/UHN in the analysis, reporting, reconciliation of the financial activities related to clinical trials and grants. This position requires an action-oriented individual, with an accounting background, strong technical skills, good business acumen, demonstrated problem solving capabilities and a good understanding of accounting principles. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work with individuals from other areas to achieve objectives combined with analytical and problem-solving skills, an eye for detail, the ability to and initiative to follow up on items, or determine appropriate steps for timely resolution.

Duties:

  • Apply general ledger knowledge to accurately track financial transactions, ensure proper coding of expenses, and support financial reconciliation processes.
  • Review and verify invoices, ensuring that services or deliverables have been completed as expected before approving payments.
  • Track and follow up on overdue invoices, coordinating with internal teams and vendors to resolve outstanding payments promptly.
  • Review internal team deliverables to ensure work is completed as expected and issue invoices accordingly.
  • Reconcile clinical trial accounts; perform analysis to respond to stakeholder inquiries.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other tasks as assigned and ad-hoc requests, which may include, but are not limited to, developing accounting system for clinical trials, budgeting for clinical trials, or participating on special committees.
  • Occasionally manage administrative workflows, including monitoring and triaging the team's inbox, prioritizing correspondence, and ensuring timely follow-ups. Coordinate meetings and schedules by booking appointments, managing calendar invites, and preparing necessary materials.
  • Facilitate document processing, including obtaining required signatures, tracking approvals, and ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines

Qualifications

  • At minimum Community College diploma (three years) in Business Administration or equivalent program. University Degree in Business Administration or equivalent is preferred.
  • at minimum, 2 years related experience in a financial environment, required
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting and/or research funding are preferred
  • Proficient Excel skills and competent PowerPoint skills
  • Familiarity with UHN Research Finance systems is preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Experience with financial modeling, financial and cost accounting and with analyzing and interpreting large quantities of financial and statistical data; systems thinker
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
