Position Summary

As an integral member of Accounts Payable ("AP") department, the Financial Analyst I performs a broad scope of professional accounting activities requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting principles and practices. Reporting to the AP Manager and AP Lead, the Financial Analyst I performs, relatively independently, a wide range of detailed and complex accounting and advisory functions requiring professional judgement pertaining to assigned area, accounts or departments and ensures day to day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives.

Duties:

  • Review submissions for weekly payments for adherence to policies and process as per the agreed terms
  • Provide guidance and support to AP associates on processing invoices efficiently to minimize payment delays
  • Perform analysis on overdue accounts, GRIR, aging vendors and shipping freight variances
  • Perform month-end close including preparing and posting journal entries/accruals
  • Perform Balance Sheet accounts reconciliation, investigate and resolve variances.
  • Prepare various subsystem reports or database queries, draft commentary to emphasis key areas of variance and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Understand procedures and policies in AP with regards to vendor management, invoice management, and payments, and able to reinforce it when required
  • Perform cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested, including providing back-up support for other financial analysts.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects or activities as needed

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Business Administration or equivalent
  • One to two years (1-2) related experience in an accounting environment with exposure to a range of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Experience with SAP, preferably S4 HANA
  • Working towards completion of a professional accounting program, preferred - eg. CPA or relevant combination of education and experience
  • Ability to analyze and interpret large quantities of financial and statistical data; systems thinker
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and great attention to details
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of computer application accounting systems & software applications, preferably in a Microsoft Office environment, well verse with Excel formulas including vlookups, pivot tables etc.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 Power Tools an asset
