Salary: $76,655- $95,823 per annum: to commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy

Position Summary:

The Financial Analyst III (FAIII) performs a wide range of professional accounting activities requiring application of an advanced professional and competent knowledge of accounting concepts, principles and practices. The FAIII will be a key support to the Principal Investigators and Sr. Research Program Manager within the Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Oncology programs at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/UHN in the analysis, reporting, reconciliation of the financial activities related to clinical trials, programmatic initiatives, grants and philanthropy. This position requires an action-oriented individual, with an accounting background, strong technical skills, good business acumen, demonstrated problem solving capabilities and a good understanding of accounting principles. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work with individuals from other areas to achieve objectives combined with analytical and problem solving skills, an eye for detail, the ability to and initiative to follow up on items, or determine appropriate steps for timely resolution.

Duties:

  • General ledger and account reconciliation
  • Generating/receiving invoices to/from sponsors and collaborators
  • Monitoring interdepartmental cost recoveries
  • Managing internal and external funding MOUs
  • Assisting with budget creation of investigator initiated clinical trials, grants and donor funded initiatives
  • Program-level financial planning
  • Supervision of other financial staff/growing the team
  • Coordinating the preparation and analysis schedules, statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Other tasks as assigned and adhoc requests, which may include, but are not limited to, developing accounting system for clinical trials, contributing to business cases for program expansion/consolidation etc., or participating on special committees

Qualifications

  • At minimum, completion of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent program, required
  • Five years practical and related experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience required, preferably in health care field
  • Some experience at working in a costing environment preferred
  • Working towards completion of a professional accounting program (e.g., CPA), or relevant combination of education and experience, preferred
  • Preferably with a CMA or CGA, (currently studying for the final exams for either is acceptable)
  • MBA/MHA preferred
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, and or research funding
  • Expert knowledge of Excel; strong knowledge of PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with UHN Research Finance systems preferred
  • Familiarity with UHN Foundation and Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation finance systems preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Experience with financial modeling, financial and cost accounting and with analyzing and interpreting large quantities of financial and statistical data; systems thinker
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
