Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, Post Trade, this role provides front line support to CDS and CDCC businesses on management reporting, planning, forecasting and portfolio financial management. This role has direct engagement with management and predominantly engages with the director, manager and supporting staff and collaborates with other finance functions (teams) on various deliverables . This role is a key part of the Finance team that continues to earn a seat at the table to influence business decisions that will lead to overall growth and performance for TMX.

In addition to the role's direct manager, this role will also provide support to the other members of the Post Trade finance team on the collective deliverables.

The FBP team is a client-centric finance group focused on advising business unit leaders and providing financial advice and insights in order to make better business decisions. As such, the department supports the end to end finance support cycle of forecasting, budgeting, analysis, accounting and management reporting for its business unit partners. In addition, the team acts as the business units' guide to finance processes and works alongside the businesses to ensure compliance with finance policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

Business Unit Support

  • Full variance analysis, including detailed understanding on variances to budget, forecast, and prior year

  • Help deliver insights into the variances and root causes of financial performance

  • Support financial discipline across the CDS and CDCC business units, ensuring targets are met by identifying potential risks and opportunities and advise on action plans to address gaps

  • Counsel business unit leadership teams with respect to financial management and financial impacts of operational decisions

  • Analyze non-financial operating performance indicators, assessing trends and variances

  • Coordinate routine review meetings where necessary with management

  • Support the creation of the monthly, quarterly and annual management reporting packages

  • Support business case development, modeling/tracking, and post-mortem analysis

  • Support the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting process including assisting in the creation of forecast data and inputting into forecasting systems

  • Prepare journal entries, identify and collect data and process key accruals/re-classification necessary to ensure completeness of liabilities and expenses. Perform quarterly reconciliations of relevant balance sheet accounts.

  • Use Workday functionality to identify and act on process efficiency opportunities in month-end processes

Other:

  • Support the maintenance of a reliable system of internal controls over financial reporting to adequately safeguard the company's assets and provide with integrity accurate reporting on financial results and in accordance with the requirements for CEO/CFO certification

Must haves:

  • University graduate; a CPA and/or CFA designation or in progress is preferred

  • Client centric with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • 1-2 years of relevant finance experience; ideally in corporate finance, business support, and internal managerial reporting

  • Strong analytical skills with good understanding of accounting principles and practices

  • Superior technical skills, including Excel (pivot tables, model building, model auditing), Google Workspace

  • Ability to multi-task while having strong attention to detail

Nice to haves:

  • Workday financial system experience

  • Familiar with visual analytic tools such as Tableau or Power BI

  • Previous Experience in Financial Services and/or Capital Markets Industry

Note: Hybrid role 2 - 3 days in Toronto Downtown Office location
