Do you have a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to financial integrity? We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forensic Accountant to join our dynamic Forensic Investigation Team.

In this role, you will oversee forensic audits, investigate financial issues, and address allegations of misconduct or fraud. You will also lead data analytics for audits and provide expert advice on financial controls and fraud risk mitigation to senior management and legal counsel.

The Forensic Investigation Team (FIT) is a centralized resource of the Ontario Public Service that provides enterprise-wide services in forensic investigation, forensic audit, and digital forensics. This includes proactive fraud prevention, fraud awareness training and consulting services. FIT investigates internal misconduct and serious fraud within, or against government including supporting Ethics Executives in the investigation of disclosures of wrongdoing as set out in legislation.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will:
• Provide forensic financial expertise and advice to protect client ministry financial assets.
• Support trial preparation on financial fraud issues and alert management to control issues.
• Plan and conduct financial investigations and forensic audits to analyze business records.
• Examine evidence to identify proof of fraud and related activities to support investigations and audits.
• Coordinate with law enforcement on criminal investigations.
• Research legislation and recommend improvements to fraud policies.
• Conduct data analytics and present findings to client ministries.
• Advise on strategies to detect and deter fraud, and deliver training sessions.
• Evaluate ministry controls and report issues to management.
• Prepare and communicate investigative and audit reports

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• You have skills in forensic accounting, fraud prevention, and interviewing
• You know accounting practices, audit standards, and laws to detect fraud and investigate crimes
• You understand fraud, criminology, and court processes for audits and testimonies
• You can analyze data, document evidence, and use computers for audits and reports
• You give technical advice on financial matters, including fraud

Research, Evaluation and Analytical Skills

• You demonstrate sound judgment, sensitivity and a high degree of political acuity
• You can research organizations, review financial records to identify fraud, and assess fraud controls
• You can assess the effectiveness of policies/programs against Ministry initiatives and goals
• You can interpret and apply policy, procedures and legislation

Project Management

• You can lead projects from initial concept through completion within specific timelines
• You can provide project leadership and advice to an assigned team of professionals

Relationship Management and Facilitation Skills

• You have expertise in creating and managing complex stakeholder relationships
• You can work collaboratively to resolve issues, negotiate changes and shifts in priorities
• You can lead consultations with stakeholders ensuring a shared understanding

Communication Skills

• You can respond to issues, provide recommendations and prepare reports using standard computer software
• You can present clear testimonies and investigation reports
• You can create, lead and present briefings on complex issues analysis to senior management
