What is the Opportunity?

The Disaster Recovery and BCM team within the Data Centres and Operational Resiliency department is responsible to support RBC's critical business processes by ensuring technology is prepared to recover from the unexpected. As an Infrastructure Resiliency Engineer, you will be responsible for assessing disaster readiness and overall application resiliency based on critical risks. You will develop and apply guidelines for resiliency and disaster readiness, review DR plans and recommend architecture improvements to mitigate risk and remove single points of failure. You will be part of an important program of continuous improvement that ensures the ongoing resilience of RBC as we become a digitally enabled relationship bank.

What will you do?

  • Assess critical business processes from an end-to-end perspective in order to identify resiliency risks and recommend technology and process changes.

  • Apply DR Infrastructure Guidelines to design highly resilient and disaster ready infrastructure solutions.

  • Prepare Runbooks and Playbooks for global data centre disaster recovery.

  • Participate with the Disaster Recovery team on exercises and contribute recommendations on continuous improvement.

  • Partner with the ITSM team to monitor Incident and Problem tickets and participate in root cause analysis to specify Resiliency or DR recommendations.

  • Research and remain current on multiple technology platforms including virtualization, databases, middleware, Cloud and SaaS.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Operational experience (on-call break-fix) with either Windows or Linux servers, and a functional understanding of both.

  • Good understanding of IT infrastructure including server virtualization, databases, SAN and NAS storage, messaging, and networking.

  • Experience with resiliency design including clusters, high availability and failover.

  • Experience with Disaster Recovery including design, exercise planning and execution.

  • Well organized with good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have:

  • Project management experience.

  • Experience with ServiceNow.

  • Familiarity with multi-tier application design.
