The Canadian IT, Platforms and Engineering (PnE) team is responsible for delivering best-in-class technology solutions for our digital clients, by collaborating with Architecture, Operations, Journey, and Platform teams. Our goal is to continuously grow and improve the engineering culture and discover new ways to help our clients achieve lifetime financial security, live healthier lives, and connect with us.

We are currently seeking a Full Stack Developer to join an agile team and develop, support, and analyze large-scale applications and systems. The successful candidate would be a team player with strong technical and problem-solving skills, who shows initiative, and is accountable for results.

Preferred skills

  • Strong skills in JavaScript/ES6, React.js, HTML, CSS/SCSS, Webpack, XML/JSON
  • Working experience with multiple languages/technologies: Java, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, API development, Open API, AJAX, SOAP, REST, C#, ASP.NET.
  • Strong overall understanding of web applications and platforms including Windows Server, Linux, WebSphere Liberty and proficiency with Bootstrap or similar frameworks such as Foundation
  • Database experience including SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB.
  • Good understanding of DevOps tools (e.g. Bitbucket, CDD, Jenkins, Gradle).

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Professional, hands-on frontend / web development experience
  • Experience with web accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1), accessibility tools, and assistive technologies
  • Proficiency with developer tools and debugging techniques (e.g. SonarQube, SonarLint)
  • Expertise in developing responsive web design and testing across multiple browsers, devices and platforms
  • Experience building single page applications (React SPA) and using React Hooks
  • Experience with OWASP secure coding guidelines
  • You proactively keep up to date with trends and Web Development - Front End and Back End

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Design Systems (e.g. Storybook.js)
  • Experience with web development stacks including Parsley.js, AXIOS, react-bootstrap, React Context, Node.js etc.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Experience Manager
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with system designers, business system analysts, application analysts and testing specialists to deliver high quality web applications that meet our users' needs.
  • Develop efficient, high-quality, documented code.
  • Complete estimation, coding, testing, debugging and implementation activities as required.
  • Write both unit and integration tests and develop automation tools.
  • Advocate for ways to continuously improve user experience, code sustainability, and application security
  • Participate in agile ceremonies.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
