What is the opportunity?

RBC Core Banking - Client Data team manages a set of applications and microservices using various technologies on different platforms. As an open-minded Lead Software Developer, operating within an Agile product team, your primary role will be design, code and deliver the complex and quality solutions and proving them using a proof of concept to all the stake holders including senior management. You will also play a key role in designing new and extending existing applications and services (both client & internal facing) and supporting modernization activities within a diverse portfolio in support of business growth. To excel in this role, being comfortable providing technical direction, design expertise, and implementation of applications for RBC Core Banking- Client Data team is a must. This will include working with other internal development teams and infrastructure groups. You may be required to work on multiple concurrent projects. In addition, you will also be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the applications in a support role.

What will you do?

  • Work in an Agile team environment which is fast paced, fun and collaborative.
  • Together with the Project team and RBC solution architect, determine the best mix of development, interfacing applications, third party vendor solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives.
  • Implement world class coding deliverables with best industry practices and patterns.
  • Delivery quality and innovative coding solutions. 100% focus on coding and delivery.
  • Conduct and contribute to design and code reviews.
  • Understand, Analyze and Design quality solutions that span across all technology spectrums of the core client data systems.
  • Works with both technical and business stakeholders and plays primary role in communicating the technical decisions.
  • Develops industry standard design solution diagrams and documents and gets them reviewed and stores them in easily accessible locations and periodically updates them with latest happenings and changes.
  • Bridges the gap between business and technical leadership to understand the business requirements and translates them into design diagrams.
  • Works with Tech Leads (Development) and Architects to fill the gap to translate the architecture ideas into designs that could be easily followed by the technical (developers).
  • Understands the core systems and all external and internal connectivity and questions the status quo to design innovative and cutting-edge solutions/designs.
  • Consults with other areas in the RBC to learn and adopt new technical initiatives.
  • Mentors the TSAs about the design and solution approaches.
  • Prepare and reviews details designs to ensure compliance with roadmaps, and completeness.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • At least 10+ years of development experience in Java 11 and above, J2EE, Spring v3 and above, DB2, Mongo, KAFKA and related technologies.
  • At least 5+ years of solution/design experience with large enterprise using Java, J2EE and related frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, DB2, Mainframe, and UI frameworks.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in handling the Cloud based applications (such as PCF, OCP4, AWS, Docker or Azure)
  • Expert in design and coding of Java and J2EE technology-based systems.
  • Good experience in handling MongoDB and DB2 based database systems.

Nice-to-have:

  • GraphQL and Mainframe experience.
  • Good experience and understanding of security protocols such as (OAuth2.0, JWT etc.)
  • Good experience in creating the design artifacts using the latest architecture/design tools.
  • Experience with projects involving integration of disparate types of technologies/platforms.
  • Working knowledge of financial applications as well as host-based mainframe systems.
  • Experience in design/developing systems in a team environment.
  • Experience with different aspects of application design including application, data, security, and infrastructure.
  • Good leadership skills (not a follower), ability to define, influence and impact the technical direction - willing to work to become an even better leader.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership in managing technical issues.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate options, make decisions and execute within an intense environment.
  • Experience with agile methodologies is an asset; ability to learn and adapt to an agile approach is required.
