About the role:

Are you a creative, engaging and driven communications professional who is passionate about telling stories, creating exceptional employee experiences and working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver results? If so, this role is for you. The Manager, Corporate Communications will help create communications to support Sun Life Global Marketing's exciting enterprise projects over the next year through creative and engaging internal, external, and social media strategies. The role requires an experienced communications professional with a strong understanding of how to deliver impactful internal and external communications and navigate a matrixed organization, including consideration for global teams and stakeholders. The manager will report to the Director of Corporate Communications.

We're looking for a passionate team player who is proactive, agile, creative and proven in their ability to drive outcomes. The successful candidate will collaborate while challenging traditional thinking and successfully execute to help support the Global Marketing team's efforts.

What will you do?

  • Provide communications counsel while owning the execution of strategies and communications tactics that align to Global Marketing's strategic priorities including Global Brand and Brand Strategy.
  • Build and execute integrated communications plans - both internal and external - finding new, creative and fresh ways to support and promote Global Marketing's priorities.
  • Provide communications counsel and advice to leaders and partners for employee communications, social media, media interviews and external opportunities.
  • Fuel employee engagement by delivering creative and visual internal communications tied to Global Marketing priorities.
  • Provide advice and support in counselling leaders and partners on strategic communications.
  • Collaborate and support counterparts in the U.S. and Asia to successfully align and execute global initiatives.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the media landscape and current issues affecting both the businesses and the organization holistically.
  • Ensure measurements and metrics are in place to review results and effectiveness of communications activities.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in corporate communications with experience both internally and externally supporting a Global Marketing or Brand/Marketing function.
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in employee communications, media relations, and a demonstrated ability to confidently advise senior leaders.
  • Post-secondary education in related field (communications, journalism, public relations) and a general understanding of the financial services industry.
  • Understanding of social media strategy and how to effectively use it as a communication channel.
  • Strong storyteller with an understanding of how to create a narrative and tell compelling stories for various stakeholders (internal and external) across the globe.
  • Exceptional written communications skills including editing, proofreading and attention to detail.
  • Experience with employee engagement and organizational change communications.
  • Self-starter with the ability to deliver strategic communications plans, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of external media channels, including social media, and internal channels to promote Global Marketing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship management and project management skills with the ability to maneuver multi-stakeholder teams in a high-volume environment and balance multiple priorities to meet tight deadlines.

Preferred skills:

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
