Market Risk is a team within Global Risk Management that measures and monitors market risk arising from Scotiabank GBM's trading and treasury activities of Global Banking and Markets (GBM), Group Treasury (GT) and International Banking (IB). This opening is in the Market Risk Analytics and Central Office team.

The team has a mandate to enable effectiveness and efficiency across Market Risk globally. Central Office serves as the lightning rod for initiatives and requests that span across market risk groups. Central Office also helps co-ordinate these initiatives to ensure consistency and completeness of approach.

This role is a good first step into capital markets risk management. The incumbent will work with the global Market Risk team and have the opportunity to learn about the Bank's trading and treasury activities

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Assist the Senior Manager in planning for the Market Risk Management and Policy Committee (MRMPC) meetings including logistics and preparation of meeting materials.
  • Prepares market risk and KPI reports for the Bank's senior capital market executives, Market Risk senior management, and regulators
  • Manages the processes and technology associated with market risk/valuation policies and documentation including limits
  • Partnership with Market Risk groups globally. Engage Market Risk in a proactive manner to promote open communication and synergies of process.
  • Assist SVP and VPs Market Risk in interactions with regulators and auditors.
  • Participate in external and internal audits and resolution of findings
  • Partnership with Compliance to monitor and maintain the compliance assessment and control
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and participate in enhancement implementations
  • Participate in enhancement/upgrade of technology systems as needed.

  • Ability to deliver in a fast paced environment
  • Self-motivated; ability to manage projects independently while collaborating with different stakeholders Good understanding of capital markets and market risk principles
  • Quantitative Undergrad (eg. finance, mathematics, statistics, and engineering) plus Masters preferred.
