The Manager, Mortgage Security contributes to the overall success of the RESL in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is This Role Right for You? In this role, you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Providing support to Mortgage Security staff on investigative reviews relating to external mortgage brokers, Home Financing Advisors, and underwriters from HFS and SMA.
  • Responsible for overseeing Enhanced Due Diligence requests received from internal and external sources and assisting Mortgage Security Analysts as needed.
  • Liaising with Corporate Security in relation to investigations involving SMA & HFS staff, including providing analysis of mortgage applications suspected of being fraudulent.
  • Providing support to HFS and SMA management staff on a variety of fraud, enhanced due diligence, staff conduct issues.
  • Escalating risk concerns identified to the Senior Manager, Mortgage Security as needed.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions relating to the mortgage businesses.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • In depth knowledge of MIMS
  • Investigative/Review experience
  • Mortgage underwriting or mortgage policy knowledge
  • Knowledge of mortgage approval process
