What is the Opportunity?

The incumbent supports the Senior Manager of Retail Portfolio Monitoring in managing portfolio health with a focus on Home Equity Financing (HEF) products. The incumbent build/execute portfolio monitoring reports, identifies risk drivers and opportunities related to portfolio management, and develops insights and forms recommendations based on credit performance, client profile, as well as economic conditions.

This position specializes in insight-generation through in-depth portfolio analytics.

This role gives the incumbent the opportunity to build on these strengths: solving complex problems, cross-enterprise mindset, understanding of consumer behaviour and RBC risk appetite, and adaptability to dynamic macro economic and credit environment.

What Will You Do?

Portfolio analytics

  • Deliver timely and accurate analytics independently by:
    • Understand the question behind the request.
    • Establish analytical framework and hypothesis, and dynamically adapt based on progress and findings.
    • Perform all manners of data mining activities, including data validation, cleansing/standardization, factor analysis, etc.
    • Summarize results and recommendations.
    • Communicating to stakeholders.
  • Use data to generate insights and support HEF portfolio analytics across the entire credit value chain, and identify risk driver and opportunities on acquisition, portfolio management and loss forecast in a dynamic credit and market environment.
  • Integrate measures into existing reports per business and regulatory requirements and needs.
  • Develop and execute routines to measure and monitor effectiveness of policy and process changes to determine success and make adjustment recommendations where required.
  • Ongoing portfolio monitoring and commentary and provide regular performance updates to stakeholders, which includes HEF Business Partners, OSFI, and Finance.
  • Support portfolio management initiatives, analytics, and ad hoc requests as required.

Report development, production, and maintenance

  • Partner with teammates to design incisive and meaningful risk-monitoring measures used to maintain overall portfolio quality.
  • Have shared responsibility for building, validating, and automating new metrics and reports.
  • Assist with researching and enhancing automation methodologies.
  • Produce suite of standard portfolio reports used by stakeholders

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Ability to solve complex problem independently.
  • Strength in creative thinking and self-learning.
  • Attention to detail with intense curiosity.
  • Extensive experience with:
    • Advanced SQL skills
    • Strong SAS/Python or equivalent programming experience
    • Expert in MS Excel and PowerPoint
    • Effective and conversant in business and technical environment
    • Proven analytical skills
    • Good understanding of consumer behaviour and credit risk
  • Project planning and time management toward strict deadlines.
  • Collaborative and supportive attitude
  • Degree in Engineering, Statistics or other quantitative field of study

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of Teradata, DB2, Oracle
  • Familiarity with Tableau, R languages, Pathfinder
  • Working knowledge of consumer credit products
  • Experience in credit risk
