Job Description:

About the role:

Reporting to the Director, Sustainability Outreach, the Manager, Sustainability Operations will drive operational efficiencies and effectiveness through the management and optimization of Sun Life's Sustainability function's processes, systems, and technologies.

What will you do?

Budget Management

  • Provide structure and governance to all budget activities in Sustainability, and will:
    • Manage budget tracking and reporting for Sustainability budgets against annual plans through Budget Dashboards and files; update and reconcile actual spends each month and ensure alignment to forecast, making real-time adjustments
    • Lead and contribute to quarterly and monthly reporting with updates on budget spend, pacing, plan-related information for KPI achievement, and ensuring budget targets are met
    • Working with Sr. Leaders and Finance, participate in annual budget planning and build the Sustainability Operating Budget
    • Working closely with the leadership team, support the strategic planning of conferences, sponsorships and other sustainability opportunities as part of the sustainability outreach plan

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Manage new and existing vendor assessments, onboarding and ongoing relationship manager activities on behalf of sustainability team including Request for Information, Request for Proposal, TPRM due diligence requests, etc.
  • Coordinate the approval of new vendor agreements working with Strategic Sourcing, Contract management, Legal, IT Security, Compliance, Architecture and marketing leaders
  • Manage payment of invoicing for the Sustainability team to align with budget management and forecasting
  • Identify opportunities to streamline business processes and systems
  • Support the team in the management of procurement, invoicing and budgeting practices

Operations

  • Provide oversight on projects and operational administrative activities for Sustainability, including some team-led events
  • Assume records management duties in compliance with Sun Life's records management protocols and procedures
  • Maintain a playbook for the Operations role to ensure processes are documented
  • Serve as the Business Continuity Coordinator for Sustainability in support of the annual Business Continuity program
  • Serve as the Operational Risk Officer (ORO) and Fraud Officer: OROs are responsible for overseeing day-to-day compliance with the Compliance Risk Management Policy in their functions and addressing responsibilities periodically outlined by the Chief Compliance Officer

Digital Support

  • Help coordinate posting of digital assets onto our owned Sun Life Sustainability web pages.
  • Other duties as required.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a related Operations and/or Analytics role
  • 2 to 3 years of experience managing large, complex projects and able to handle multiple project priorities in fast paced environment
  • University Degree
  • Ability to lead teams through change applying change management techniques.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders, understand requirements and drive a plan forward
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Strong knowledge of project management techniques, tools and methodologies
  • Experience in Procurement and/or Strategic Sourcing (i.e. sourcing, contract management or vendor management)

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of Sun Life TPRM process and experience with vendor onboarding is an asset
  • Project management designations (PMP, CAPM) are assets but not required

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
