What is the opportunity?

The Senior Advisor, Employee Conduct, Employee Relations is a key member of the Employee Relations team.

RBC's Employee Relations team provides advice and counsel to executives, people leaders and employees on complex workplace situations, providing a fair and transparent employee experience while managing risk to RBC. In this fast-paced environment, the Senior Advisor, Employee Conduct will lead and deliver projects within Employee Relations in support of the ER strategy and enablement functions and manage RBC's Speak Up channels.

The Senior Advisor, Employee Conduct, Employee Relations role will have accountability for effective management of workplace risk, including: management of the conduct hotline, executive escalations, project enablement relating to processes, procedures and compliance with policy, dispute resolution and investigations, regulatory requirements and applicable federal and provincial employment and human rights legislation; advice and counsel on employe relations matters; strengthening RBC's value of integrity and business ethics practices through ensuring misconduct is addressed appropriately and consistently within RBC's Code of Conduct and policies.

The Senior Advisor, Employee Conduct, Employee Relations works with a broad set of stakeholders including members of the Employee Relations team, Human Resources, and other RBC teams to manage complex and transformational Employee Relations projects as well as contribute to enterprise initiatives which have a significant Employee Relations impact or require ER contribution.

What will you do?

  • Manage RBC's Global Conduct Hotline and executive escalation channels including triage of reports and management of select reports.
  • Support RBC's Conflict Resolution Programs by acting as a dispute resolution facilitator and expert to support the enablement of the Program to Employee Relations Advisory team.
  • Lead management of employee conduct investigations, including Respectful Workplace matters and other Code of Conduct breaches and ethical concerns.
  • Plan and execute Employee Relations projects with a high level of complexity including managing scope, requirement, changes, multiple and competing demands and priorities as well as determining and conveying impact on budget, time and risk using appropriate fact-based metrics / assumptions.
  • Develop, implement and manage ER processes and systems to monitor employee conduct, aligning with business conduct monitoring processes to provide integrated insights and identify proactive strategies to prevent misconduct through data analytics.
  • Improve the analysis of employee misconduct identifying and reporting trends and emerging issues including understanding the root cause of misconduct to report insights to the business and functional partners, as required, for additional monitoring.
  • Facilitates planning discussions with the Employee Relations leadership team in the early stages of project formation, and at critical points throughout project delivery.
  • Provide coaching and advice to Employee Relations Advisors and Senior Advisors regarding management of matters reported through various Speak Up Channels.
  • Foster an open environment within Employee Relations that drives a high-performance culture

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Minimum of 7+ years direct experience in Employee Relations/Human Resources/Dispute Resolution (ER/HR) and/or employment law.
  • Demonstrated and applied knowledge of Canadian employment law & regulations (both federal & provincial including human rights, accommodation, whistleblowing, and workplace standards / requirements).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, able to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously while delivering on commitments.
  • Thought leadership, strategic thinking, analytical and problem solving capabilities.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent collaboration capabilities and ability to engage others to work towards a shared vision and common goals.
  • Experience establishing and managing relationships with executives and senior level stakeholders with the ability to impact and influence.
  • Strong track record of successful and timely delivery on projects and/or initiatives.
  • Ability to drive change in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances, to handle confidential. information and escalate issues when appropriate with a high degree of professionalism and organizational awareness.
  • Strong sense of accountability, high-quality judgement and sound decision-making.
  • Significant experience in conducting and/or managing workplace investigations and supporting in conflict resolution programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in aligning and integrating risk management with business and HR strategy.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in an in-house legal department or law firm.
  • Called to the Bar of a Canadian province (or equivalent.)
  • Familiarity with cross-functional and/or global projects
  • Strong presentation skills including Power Point
  • Bilingual (English/French.)
