WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

RBC is looking to hire a Senior Agile Project Manager. The ideal candidate will work alongside a cross-functional team of Product Owners, Development & QE Managers, and Vendors managing the delivery of medium-to-complex agile development projects. You will serve a range of different stakeholders and be responsible for building and improving relationships across all levels of the organization. It will require you to provide agile project management servant leadership to your team and stakeholders.

As an agile practitioner, you will be responsible for facilitating backlog refinements, increment planning, retrospectives, roadmap creation and scrum of scrums.

You will act as the main point of contact for assigned projects, prioritize work, address impediments, mitigate risks and issues, and ensure that projects are running efficiently and delivered with a high level of quality.

What will you do?

Initiative Delivery:

  • Facilitate medium-to-high complexity Agile initiatives from initiation through release and ongoing production support, providing oversight to ensure alignment with RBC Agile/Scrum practices, including but not limited to, project planning and kick-off, sprint cadence, release and deployment planning, both technical and non-technical activities.
  • Project management related deliverables such as: creating and managing delivery roadmaps, identifying and managing delivery risks; tracking and reporting financials for the team; navigating and identifying shared services required by the team in the delivery of its objectives.
  • Assess work packages from multiple workstreams to develop the integrated schedule, identifies the dependencies and build the critical path. Oversees and manages the integration of workstream deliverables including vendor-related deliverables for quality and completion.

Team facilitation (medium to large size teams):

  • Facilitate discussions leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the team
  • Remove impediments to delivery success through the proactive management of external dependencies, problem-solving, and the development of new solutions or approaches to ongoing challenges
  • Champions ways-of-working by working towards business transformation and supporting change management across the teams. Creating a trusting and safe team environment
  • With the assistance from agile coaches and the Agile COE, provide proactive coaching to the team and recommend continuous improvement of processes to optimize team productivity

Cross-functional Communication:

  • Communicate cross functionally, ensuring transparency of progress and outcomes; report team progress and accomplishment up and across; facilitate status updates, product demos and retrospectives; ensure timely project and financial reporting

What do you need to succeed?

The success of this role is measured in terms of how well project processes are being planned and executed as well as the success and predictability of the team delivering on the project objectives and commitments.

Must-have:

  • Proven experience leading large, complex projects within the financial services industry
  • Experience delivering projects using various methodologies, including Agile and iterative waterfall project methodologies.
  • Proven experience as a scrum master (managing medium-to-large scale initiatives) in a dependent multi-agile team environment, using influence to facilitate outcomes, including practical experience facilitating all key Agile ceremonies and practices
  • Experience following agile project management best practices and methodologies
  • General management skills including negotiating, communicating and team building
  • Proven ability to manage projects with third-party vendors and significant technology components

Nice-to-have:

  • Advanced knowledge of Atlassian products (specifically Jira and Confluence)
  • Experience leading large, complex initiatives
  • Experience managing several significant projects simultaneously
  • Experience mentoring and guiding teams with project methodology
  • Previous RBC or Wealth Management experience, with strong knowledge of Retail Trading, Direct Investing and Trade Flow (how the different components are connected)
  • SCM and PMP certification
