Global Functions Technology (GFT) is part of RBC's Technology and Operations division. GFT's impact is far-reaching as we collaborate with partners from across the company to deliver innovative and transformative IT solutions. Our clients represent Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration.

The Finance IT Data Standards team manages data model standards that are used by several RBC Lines of Business, such as: Capital Markets, Retail Banking, Wealth Management, Insurance and Commercial Banking. These data standards support data storage/transfer to RBC back-office control functions, like Finance, Market Risk, Trading Credit Risk, Liquidity Risk and Enterprise Risk. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that our model standards meet business requirements while supporting data scalability and reliability.

This position requires a lot of interpersonal interaction at all levels within the organization, from technical personnel to high level management, excellent communication skills are a must for this role.

What will you do?

  • Understand in detail consumer requirements, research industry data standards for financial products and propose appropriate design/standards extensions to support such requirements.

  • Understand the various financial products in RBC and work with our partners to ensure they are represented/modelled correctly to support stakeholders' requirements

  • Produce and maintain high quality documentation and metadata required to support each model and standard published

  • Strong teamwork mentality. Organize and conduct internal reviews of work/analysis done; the goal is to avoid overlap of work with other team members, knowledge share and guarantee adherence to existing models/standards/designs

  • Demonstrate clear understanding of each model/standard and articulate the intent and vision via walkthroughs for consumer and data suppliers; the goal is to communicate updates and educate our partners on models and standards supported by the team

  • Interface with business areas, including high profile stakeholders, to ensure all initiatives support business strategies and goals and provide recommendations for future state

  • Help determine what data sets are required by back office control functions, determine what data sets are available from upstream data supplier, and work with SMEs in both groups to reach agreement on model or standard extensions.

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure adherence to published standards

  • Apply extensive, in-depth knowledge, skills, and practices to perform complex assignments.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 7+ years hands-on data modelling experience (including data analysis and profiling) in high pressure environment in financial sector, preferably in Capital Markets

  • Expertise in data management and governance in data integration projects involving Capital Markets trading platforms

  • Excellent communication skills, including presentation and facilitation skills, are critical for this role

  • Able to quickly and effectively gather, synthesize and drive resolution of modelling tasks in a cross-functional team environment

  • Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Detail oriented with strong problem solving skills with analytical mind and creative thinking

  • Expert in time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in PowerDesigner or Erwin

  • Knowledge in FSLDM (Financial Services Logical Data Model), FpML (Financial Product Markup Language) and Financial Regulatory Reports (Canada, US, UK)

  • Understanding and experience in software development life-cycle

  • Experience designing and building systems for extremely high traffic and transaction volumes, such as Data Lake / Hadoop environment

  • Demonstrate integrity and a constructive approach to challenges

  • Lead, coach and mentor others while providing constructive feedback
