What is the opportunity?

This fast-paced role acts as a trusted senior advisor to members of RBC’s Group Executive and covers key aspects of internal and external communications across their respective businesses and functions. You will lead teams that protect and build the reputation of the bank, plan and execute strategic communications that deliver on business priorities and work to help engage employees across a range of activities.

As a member of the Corporate Communications Senior Management Team and reporting to the SVP, you will help set the strategic direction of this dynamic and high performing global team.

What will you do?

  • Strategic counsel – act as a trusted advisor to two members of RBC’s Group Executive: The Group Head of Insurance and the Chief Risk Officer, including supporting them and their teams to communicate with media, employees and other key stakeholders as required; also provide communications advice to the Chief Audit Executive
  • External communications & media relations – oversee/guide planning and execution of strategic communications and media strategies that drive positive coverage and articulate RBC’s corporate strategy, vision and values, enhance our brand and advance our key business priorities
  • Reputation management – oversee and manage communications strategy and response on reputational issues related to the Insurance business and the Group Risk Management function; act as spokesperson for media as required
  • Internal communications – oversee and manage a wide range of high impact tactics and channels to drive employee engagement, increase understanding, support change and collect feedback
  • Relationship management – build and foster relationships across the businesses and functions you support, and across the bank, to share and gather information and ensure enterprise connectivity
  • Team management – lead and engage a team of high-performance professionals, with a focus on empowerment, coaching and development
  • Department leadership – partner with and support the Senior Vice President, Communications as a member of the Corporate Communications Senior Management Team to help foster an engaged and future-focused team of strategic communications advisors

What do you need to succeed?

  • A proven track record of experience in corporate communications roles covering strategic advice to top executives, media relations, issues management, employee communications and speech writing
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, negotiate and build consensus in a large and global matrixed organization
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Top tier people leadership capabilities with experience building and coaching high performing and engaged teams
  • A strong understanding of the financial services industry

  • Experience in the insurance industry
