Sr. Director, Enterprise Architecture, Data & AI

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Come join the Enterprise Architecture team to define end-to-end architecture patterns for data analytics, reporting, Machine Learning, and AI use cases, for business initiatives! The Senior Director will establish and enforce the architecture standards within the Data & AI domain, in partnership with RBC Borealis and Data leaders. As part of Solution Architecture governance, solutions will be reviewed and assessed against our Data & AI principles and the usage of standard technologies, patterns, and enterprise platforms / services. Beyond governance during the planning & design stage, the Senior Director will also work in conjunction with the Platform team to enforce standards within Lumina, such as data lineage. The Senior Director also partners with other governance functions in streamlining and driving safe adoption across the Bank in the use of Generative AI.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Defines technology standards & architecture patterns within the Data & AI domain, such as standard database technologies, tooling, etc. (including the governance of technology & patterns that are specialized and not permitted)

  • Develops integration points & architecture between the Data & AI Platform ("Lumina") and other enterprise technology platforms (e.g., API Platform; Zephyr Hybrid Cloud Platform, Helios Developer Platform, etc.)
  • Establishes architectural patterns, reference architecture and opinionated, reusable code patterns that demonstrate adherence to standards & requirements, in an easily accessible and consumable Innersource repository for our technology community (developers, data scientists, etc.)
  • Chairs the Data & AI Architecture Review Board for strategic decisions and trade-offs
  • Translate architecture standards & requirements into enforceable tests / scans that can be applied at the development and operate stages
  • Integrates the continuous testing / scanning of applications & platforms against architecture standards (requirements) within our Data & AI Platform ("Lumina") and other control points (e.g., configuration management tools, OPA, etc.)
  • Refreshes technology governance process in order to align standard technologies with our enterprise technology platforms and provide deterministic criteria & use cases for the adoption of a given technology

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of linear and non-linear models including Language Model (LLM), Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT), and other relevant AI technologies, as well as their applications in application development processes.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing teams in a large, complex organization, preferably in the financial services industry.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies, tools, and practices, with expertise in application development using a variety of linear, non-linear and multi-modal models.

Nice-to-have:

  • 12-15 years of experience in Technology including emerging use of AI, Machine Learning, and/or Natural Language Processing (NLP) with a focus on generative AI technologies.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape and ethical considerations related to the use of AI technologies in the financial services industry.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate business needs into AI solutions that drive cost savings and efficiency gains.
  • Experience in leading experimentation and innovation initiatives, including designing and executing proof-of-concept projects, evaluating and selecting AI tools and plugins, and driving successful adoption of AI technologies.
