What can I expect to do in this role?

As a specialist in economics, you will:

• Use economic theories to analyze data and statistics from various sources to assess feasibility and develop forecasting models required to support strategic decision-making and policy/program development;
• Apply advanced quantitative and analytical skills and processes to support the development of logical, well-reasoned and cost-effective solutions;
• Recommend innovative solutions to improve economic modelling and the ongoing updating of forecasts to enhance and influence decision-making;
• Lead and coordinate the planning and implementation of economic and forecasting projects;
• Design and develop communication products to disseminate analytical results effectively.

How do I qualify?

Technical Expertise:

• You demonstrate knowledge of economic theories and methodologies, mathematical concepts, and economic modelling techniques;
• You have research methodologies and data analysis techniques to extract and analyze relevant data;
• You have knowledge of statistics and statistical methodologies and software (e.g. SAS, SPSS, etc.) for data modelling and to assess complex data and conduct analysis;
• You have knowledge of cost-benefit analysis to assess the return on investment of proposed policy and program initiatives, quantify tangible benefits and key performance metrics;
• You have knowledge of office computer software including word processing, spreadsheets and database packages to assess data, conduct analysis and prepare reports, and presentations.

Analytical, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills:

You have proven analytical skills and experience to:
• Interpret data to develop forecasting models that convey issues, trends and risks;
• Conduct analysis, explain analytical methodology and report accurate results and recommendations;
• Filter, synthesize and translate a range of diverse data/information into meaningful econometric models and forecasts.

Project Management, Leadership Skills and Relationship Management Skills:

You have demonstrated skills and experience to:
• Lead and coordinate the planning and implementation of economic and forecasting projects that deliver actionable findings;
• Provide direction to staff and to mentor less senior staff;
• Lead projects effectively to meet goals and competing deadlines;
• Collaborate and consult with colleagues to improve the coordinated and optimized delivery of the research and analytics function in the ministry;
• Build and maintain networks and partnerships, and develop effective linkages for consultations and projects.

Communications and Presentation Skills:

You have demonstrated skills and experience to:
• Communicate information clearly to a wide variety of audiences;
• Prepare briefing and presentation materials for senior decision-makers;
• Design and develop processes/material/dashboards to support the effective dissemination of analytical results;
• Translate data and analytical results into actionable insights to support senior leadership decision-making;
