TTC is transforming its Finance function from a traditional controllership role to one in which Finance is a strategic business partner that provides value added, best and leading financial planning, management and reporting services across the organization.


We are currently hiring for a Senior Financial Analyst in our Corporate Operating department within our Finance Department.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Financial Analyst, some of the key responsibilities may include developing Corporate Operating planning, budgeting and/or funding strategies, policies, directions, guidelines, processes and tactics. As well as when working with the Business Partner Support staff you will ensure appropriate understanding of, and providing advice on the proper application and compliance with corporate financial planning & budgeting policies, practices, controls and deadlines. You will also be responsible for preparing Operating Variance Reports for submission to senior management, the Board and the City.

In addition, you will be working with Business Partner Support staff to ensure the annual Operating Budget, multi-year forecasts, financial updates and in-year budget adjustment submissions are prepared, reviewed, approved and submitted in accordance with corporate policies, guidelines and deadlines.

You will be responsible for developing and supporting delivery of training and procedures related to Operating planning & budgeting concepts, strategies, policies, analysis, financial management, controls, systems, templates, tools and reporting, and collaborating with Business Management & Performance staff to create and deliver appropriate business training.

The incumbent will also be responsible for planning, developing, testing and continuously improving systems, templates, tools and reporting to support the annual Operating Budgeting, financial performance reporting and in-year budget adjustment processes.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline, along with extensive related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • A professional accounting designation, graduate degree or other designation in a related discipline would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated work experience with SAP would be preferred.
  • Experience in business intelligence, data analytics and visualization would be an asset.
  • Proven knowledge and extensive experience in the application of the principles and practices of Operating Budget formulation, evaluation, administration, planning and policy development, in a large public or private sector organization
  • Proven experience in a corporate oversight role leading Operating budget formulation, with extensive knowledge of generally accepted budgeting principles, techniques, and systems in a large public organization
  • Extensive experience in the preparation of financial plans, budgetary reporting and financial analysis for a managerial audience
  • Extensive knowledge of, and working experience with, cost control principles, methods, practices; performance measures; and financial research methods and techniques
  • Strong research, analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with the capacity to understand complex financial plans, policy issues, program interrelationships and the potential results and outcomes of policy actions and the ability to conceptualize and develop options and recommendations to support decision-making
  • Expert knowledge in MS Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel (including Macros, Pivot Tables, Lookup Functions and Data Analysis Functions) and other computerized applications related to financial planning, budgeting, accounting, costing and cost control
  • Excellent strategic, lateral thinking, planning, and problem solving skills with the capacity to effectively plan, develop, implement and evaluate complex administrative and operating systems
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing reports and delivering presentations with complex technical information to senior leadership teams
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and demands in a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning due to rapidly changing conditions and issues
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
