What you'll do

As a Senior Financial Analyst on our Corporate Planning & Reporting team, you will be at the heart of our financial decision-making process, providing critical insights that shape the direction of Canadian Tire Corporation. You will play a key role in reporting and analyzing the Company's performance, delivering actionable insights to senior management, the CFO, and the Board. This is a highly visible, customer-facing role that requires strong storytelling skills to communicate complex financial data in a clear, compelling way that influences strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive Strategic Insights: Lead the preparation and presentation of monthly and quarterly performance reports to Senior Management and the Board, delivering key variance analyses and insights that help drive business strategy and decisions.

  • Storytelling with Impact: You'll use your financial expertise to "connect the dots" and craft narratives that make financial data come alive. Your analysis will provide meaningful, actionable insights that inform key decisions at the highest levels of the company, including the CFO and Board of Directors.

  • Collaborative Partner: Work closely with cross-functional teams—FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Investor Relations, and Corporate Accounting—to gather insights and provide in-depth analysis on key financial variances, ensuring alignment and accuracy across the business.

  • Customer-Facing Financial Expertise: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, helping them understand the story behind the numbers and how they can drive performance improvements. Your insights will be pivotal in shaping strategic plans and guiding decision-making.

  • Lead Financial Modeling and Forecasting: Be a subject matter expert, develop and maintain sophisticated financial models, ensuring that budgeting and forecasting for variable compensation and certain corporate costs are aligned with strategic objectives, and provide actionable insights for Senior Management.

  • Reporting & External Disclosures: Support the preparation of the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) for external disclosure, providing clear commentary on key variances, reporting of Key Performance Measures and Non-GAAP measures to ensure accurate and effective communication with stakeholders.

  • Mentorship & Team Development: Take an active role in coaching and mentoring junior analyst, helping them grow their skills while contributing to the overall success of the team.

  • Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in process improvement initiatives, leveraging tools like Excel, AI, and PowerBI to enhance reporting capabilities, streamline processes, and improve overall team performance.

  • Special Projects & Ad Hoc Analysis: Provide expert-level support for special projects and ad hoc analysis, helping senior management navigate complex financial scenarios and make informed decisions.

What you bring

  • University degree or College diploma in Business, Finance/Accounting, or business-related discipline.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years business experience in an analytical field with a solid understanding of the financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow statements).

  • Currently pursuing or have obtained an accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).

  • Results oriented and organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and a keen eye for formatting. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to transform complex data into visually appealing and easily understandable reports that effectively communicate key insights to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities, including prior experience with process improvements to revamp working papers and drive efficiencies.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to collaborate effectively in a team setting.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to thrive in an environment responsive to changing business requirements.

  • Experience with storytelling and "connecting the dots" to key stakeholders at varying levels of seniority is an asset.

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (specifically with Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Working knowledge of Hyperion, PeopleSoft, AI tools and PowerBI is considered an asset.

  • Willing to work extended hours when the business requires (such as quarter end, year end, and as needed).
