Responsible for the analysis and reporting of financial information for the combined SE offices, including preparing budgets, forecasts, cash projections, monthly consolidated reports, year-end audit, and financial presentation material for senior management. The Senior Financial Analyst is involved in decisions with respect to partner distributions, points and recapitalization. Also weighs in on projects relating to firm-wide initiatives.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Budget/Forecasting/Analysis/Reporting:

  • Prepare and monitor monthly financial results for the consolidated Stikeman Elliott entity including forecasts and budgets
  • Prepare monthly analysis and management reporting packages
  • Prepare financial presentations for firm-wide Partner meetings
  • Prepare financial analysis and commentary for the quarterly Partnership Board package
  • Provide in-depth analysis and support of financial results
  • Prepare budget for firmwide expenses such as health and wellness spending benefits

Treasury:

  • Monitor daily cash balances and ensure sufficient funds exist in the bank accounts.
  • Manage cash flow and projections along with presentation materials for senior management
  • Liaise with financial institutions for cash and related investments

Partnership Support and Accounting:

  • Responsible for firmwide partner accounting (e.g. equity continuity reconciliation)
  • Create and manage partnership point deliberation materials such as the historical point history file and key partner metrics
  • Liaise with accounting department for month end journal entries and related account reconciliations

Other duties:

  • Identify, develop and implement process improvements to the planning, budgeting and reporting processes
  • Support a variety of firm-wide projects with a focus on optimizing and automating processes
  • May perform other duties as assigned within the nature and level of the job

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • 5+ years of experience in accounting/budgeting/forecasting/analytical & reporting
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
    • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or MBA is required
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and analysis
    • Advanced skills in Excel, Word, and Power Point.
    • Advanced skills with building and maintaining financial models and charts.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent self-management skills, prioritization, and project balancing.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex data to stakeholders
    • Strong collaboration skills within department and firm-wide
    • Knowledge of Aderant, PowerBI and SQL is an asset
