Purpose


Contributes to the overall success of the Investment & Advisory Solutions Group ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The Senior Investment Consultant has responsibility for growing fee based and managed asset AUM, establishing, developing and retaining account relationships within the ScotiaMcLeod sales channel. The primary emphasis is on identifying and developing new business opportunities and expanding sales in order to achieve and exceed new business growth objectives. The secondary objective is to maintain and deepen existing Advisor relationships.

Accountabilities

1. Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

2. Generates sales from new and existing clients and prospects in assigned ScotiaMcLeod branches:

  • Assists in developing a regional business plan that will result in increased assets under administration, stronger market share and improved advisor ROA and regional ROA.

  • Conducts regular branch meetings with Advisors and Branch Managers to educate them on the suite of fee based/managed asset programs

  • Solicits feedback and needs from Advisors and communicating to the Investment Solutions Group

  • Creates and deliver presentations for both Advisors and clients

  • Increases transparency of managed asset and fee-based programs through regular meetings and calls

  • Educates Advisors on the value proposition of the managed asset programs and help create scale in their book and improve their business models

  • Helps to transition new and existing assets into the managed asset programs

  • Identifies sales patterns - identify behaviours and program gaps/deficiencies, address concerns and make suggestions to improve asset growth

  • Communicates the benefits of the managed asset programs that will help Advisors meet their regulatory requirements

  • Assesses relevant data and information to implement regional sales strategies, identify business opportunities and provide input and assistance in resolving impediments to business growth.

3. Acts as the primary field resource in assigned ScotiaMcLeod branches for all Fee Based and Managed Asset products:

  • Helps create presentations to clients/prospects/foundations/charitable organizations.

  • Responds to a variety of questions ranging in complexity to assist Advisors

  • Provides guidance and recommendations on portfolio construction of client portfolios

  • Works with Advisors on establishing pricing and avoiding unprofitable pricing practices

  • Has a dedicated follow up process in place for program related questions, client concerns, proposals, and pricing

  • Coaches, trains and motivates Advisors (e.g. presentations, workshops and seminars) to increase confidence and awareness of existing and new Investment Products.

  • Aids in planning annual due diligence trips and planning days for Advisors who visit Toronto

4. Contributes to the overall success of Investment Solutions and other key areas:

  • Establishes relationships with key partners such as the Client Solutions group, Wealth Management Consultants, Northern Trust Asset Management and external managers, 1832 Asset Management L.P., Jarislowsky, Fraser Limited and GPAG.

  • Works co-operatively with the Operations and Marketing teams and other key stakeholders within Scotia Wealth Management

  • Conducts regular branch meetings with Advisors and Branch Managers to educate them on the suite of fee based/managed programs

  • Keeps abreast of trends and new ideas within the managed assets and fee-based industry as well as the regulatory environment

  • Participates in program initiatives and key projects

5. Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

6. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

7. Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Dynamic and effective communicator (both written and verbal) with the ability to captivate small and large audiences

  • Superior ability to establish, build, and maintain strong relationships

  • Well-developed presentation skills

  • Creative thinker with the ability to exercise sound judgment in responding to questions and making decisions

  • Excellent knowledge of ScotiaMcLeod products and services and distribution channels

  • Thorough knowledge of the securities industry and the stock and bond markets

  • Over 10 years of financial services experience is required

  • Strong level knowledge of ScotiaMcLeod fee-based programs and the Advisor channel is preferred

  • Previous sales related experience preferred

  • CSC or financial industry related designations (CIM, CFA, CIMA)

  • University degree is required

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) is required

  • Knowledge of Power BI is an asset

Working Conditions

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Business travel is a requirement.
