What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Communications & Media Relations for RBC Thought Leadership & the RBC Climate Action Institute will lead the development and execution of a multi-pronged communications engagement strategy to build and enhance RBC's profile as a leading source for insights, research and ideas. You will lead communications and media relations for the senior leadership team across both groups, focused on ensuring we maximize the positive external impact of the research, insights and perspectives produced by the team.

What will you do?

  • Support the development and execution of a robust external communications plan for RBC Thought Leadership and RBC Climate Action Institute
  • Lead media relations efforts for both teams by maximizing high-impact exposure for RBC economists on top-tier publication and influential industry/trade publications as well as newer media platforms (e.g. podcasts).
  • Build and deepen relationships with key media outlets and reporters, including proactively pitching story ideas and nimbly seeking out opportunities where RBC's voice would add important context and perspective.
  • Collaborate with partners across the bank to execute a multi-channel approach to promoting research and insights produced by the team and the economic expertise of the team, including leveraging social media channels, trade media and other channels.
  • Ensure key partners across the bank are informed of forthcoming research and equipped with key messages that speak to the main themes of the research.
  • Develop a strategic engagement calendar for RBC Thought Leadership and the RBC Climate Action Institute.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 7+ years of experience in media relations, communications or public affairs.
  • Experience working with major media outlets is a significant benefit.
  • Highly adaptable, strategic communicator with the ability to prioritize competing requests in a fast-paced environment; embrace change; and demonstrate diplomacy, professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Strong written communications skills and the ability to seamlessly provide executive communications support.
  • Experience building & maintaining relationships with external stakeholders and internal partners.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and confidence in assessing and recommending media and communications approaches.
  • Ability to confidently provide strategic guidance to senior leaders and possess the ability to educate and influence others on communications best practices.

Nice-to-have

  • Undergraduate degree/post-graduate certificate or equivalent in communications, public relations, journalism, English or related field.
  • Digital and social media savvy, with a strong grasp on the evolving digital media landscape
  • Ability to meet consistently high standards of quality while handling a variety of projects and deadlines simultaneously
