Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Corporate Functions (CF) Compliance Program. Manages ongoing Compliance activities and strategies, in compliance with governing regulations as well as internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

The incumbent will support the development and oversight of the eight pillars of the Corporate Functions (CF) Compliance Program. This includes establishing and maintaining policies and procedures (in alignment with Global Compliance [GC] standards) and overseeing their ongoing sustainment and effectiveness in the following areas:

  • Supports Director Corporate Function Compliance in ensuring a consistent approach to managing compliance programs
  • Maintain awareness of risks and controls associated with current and evolving regulatory obligations
  • Have ongoing monitoring and interactions with CFs, including meetings, attendance at select committees and review relevant reporting
  • Maintain the CF Standard and any associated supporting policies and procedures
  • Oversee and/or coordinate regulatory compliance reporting with respect to CF in conjunction with Enterprise Compliance Reporting, and Business Line Compliance (BLC) Teams and Enterprise Compliance Operations
  • Providing advice and counsel to CF with respect to the implementation and execution of the RCM Program activities and responsibilities under the GC-CF Oversight Model
  • Assist and provide support with the development deployment, implementation and sustainment of the Corporate Functions Compliance Program
  • Collaborates and manages key relationships with CF and contribute to ensure Scotiabank Compliance has a coordinated, efficient and effective compliance program in CF
  • Contribute to other activities and initiatives of CF Compliance as required
  • Leads the CF Compliance challenge and relationship responsibilities for the RCM pillars and represents CF Compliance in discussions for changes/enhancements with the Global Compliance Pillar Owner/Lead and other relevant stakeholders
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Participates in an environment in which team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to regulatory compliance risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, Privacy Risk Framework, and the Code of Conduct
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment

Education/Experience

  • Post-Secondary education; preferably a degree/designation in risk management, information technology or audit
  • At least 7 or more years of experience in risk management, information technology / cybersecurity. In addition, the following should be demonstrated:
  • Success in a large complex matrix institution with a global footprint preferably in the areas of Finance and Taxation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to develop and implement solutions to complex issues
  • Ability to learn and adapt to rapidly changing regulatory and business environments
  • Strong time and project management, research and analytical skillsets
