The Small Business Sr. Manager, Credit Risk is responsible for exercising sound credit judgement, and providing quality underwriting decisions for small business credit requests. The candidate is to adhere to Bank policy and established exception authorities, while balancing production objectives.

Is This Role Right for You? In this role, you will:

  • Effectively analyze partner credit submissions, with related documentation while operating within the Bank's risk appetite and culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Adjudicates and underwrites specialty credit application exceeding $1MM involving complex corporate structures, related party transactions and multiple connected entities.
  • Demonstrate awareness of broad industry related risks relevant across the Canadian Economy.
  • Provide credit decisions that clearly communicate the terms and conditions of the adjudication.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and rational mitigating risk are on file to support credit decisions.
  • Act with a sense of urgency in response to partner requests to meet customer expectations.
  • Provide recommendations/alternative solutions, and restructuring credit requests, with coaching/direction to partners as required.
  • Effectively work in a fast-paced environment to contribute to achieve established ACE Service Level Agreement.
  • Consistently achieving KPI target as established and contributing to "First Time Right".
  • Contribute to Lean management activities including problem solving sessions, coaching, and huddles.
  • Identifying and escalating any identified issues (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering-AML; Privacy; Know Your Customer-KYC; Compliance).
  • Working within Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Bank's Small Business products/services and lending policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate accounting and financial statement analysis.
  • Good understanding of risk assessment, credit structures/protections, credit documentation, financial projections, and Equifax/TransUnion credit reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of all relevant systems as applicable to the ACE unit, the Bank's interactive systems and Microsoft Tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote).
  • Thorough knowledge of The Bank's Regulatory and Compliance requirements as they relate to credit granting, including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/Anti-Terrorist Financing; and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
  • Strong team player and skillful in developing harmonious relationships with Unit team members and stakeholders.
  • Effective communication (bilingual English/French - written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are necessary for professional interaction with partners and business lines to ensure a high level of credibility.
  • Must be organized and be an effective decision maker to meet the demands of a high-volume environment.

The candidate must have the following education/work experience:

  • Work experience in credit adjudication related role is required.
  • Post-secondary education required. Degrees in finance/accounting/economics are an asset.
  • Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English in addition to French because they will be required to work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English and they will serve and English-speaking clientele.
