The role:

The primary focus for the Senior Manager, Enterprise Data Protection is to provide oversight and advisory services to Technology Groups and business lines regarding data protection (DP) control environment, considering industry best practices and regulatory developments. The role will also assist in relevant risk transformation responsibilities, assisting with risk remediation and regulatory programs as required. This individual will report directly to the Director, Enterprise Data Protection.

What will you do?

  • Provide support to the Director, EDP on strategic and operational issues impacting Cyber and IT Risk Management. Promotes a consistent approach to EDP's management programs across all Scotiabank businesses globally.
  • Collaborate with multiple technology teams including infrastructure engineers, security engineers, developers, architects, security operations, security advisors and technology risk teams to assess controls and remediation actions on the operating environment and ongoing projects.
  • Provide advisory services to business lines regarding data protection controls. The role will engage with Technology Groups and business lines to understand and align business requirements with Cyber Security and IT Risk controls.
  • Assess risk remediation controls and policies in response to changes in regulation, organizational structure, or business needs.
  • Provide issue management oversight and support for high priority Regulatory, Internal Audit and
  • Self Identified Issues for data protection and risk management and remediation programs as required. Work with issue owners on management actions plans where required.
  • Provides support on relevant data protection and/or risk management and remediation projects and activities.
  • Support the development of the strategy, governance, and operating model across the Data Protection domains. Collaborate with management to develop recommendations around policies, standards and frameworks related to Cyber Security and IT Risk.
  • Support implementation of a strong Data Protection culture in partnership with stakeholders across various business lines.
  • Help to drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Support an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Acts as primary liaison with Functions in respect of intersections and impacts between their respective policies and programs and EDP mandate responsibilities and policies.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Master's degree or higher in science, technology, engineering, business administration is an asset.
  • Professional Certifications such as: CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA are an asset.
  • Experience using COBIT, ITIL, NIST, or other specific industry frameworks.
  • Experience in Technology, Information/Cyber Security, IT Audit, IT Compliance, regulatory-supervision, consulting, or advisory roles. Hands-on experience working on security controls/mechanisms is an asset.
  • Sound business and technical acumen, with demonstrated agility in learning and ability to quickly become comfortable with unfamiliar businesses areas or of technologies. Ability to connect programs/projects to broader organizational goals and grasp the key performance drivers of business partners.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Must also be proactive and creative, with strong, proven ability to plan and manage competing priorities, as well as ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent communication (presentation skills, verbal and written). The ability to communicate confidently and clearly on conference calls, in meetings, via email, etc. at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing / negotiation skills, capable of balancing multiple perspectives, effective at all levels.
  • Spanish proficiency is an asset.
