Global Finance - Reporting is a finance function providing financial management and analytical support to Executive Management. The team supports business line reporting and operationalization of the Bank's tax transfer program. The Vice-President Reporting is a group within the Finance Chief Accountant's department whose mandate includes external and internal reporting for the Bank, accounting policy and procedures, business solutions and project management, and non-financial risk compliance for Finance. This role will be reporting to the Director, Global Finance - Governance and Strategy. The mandate for this team is to enable the execution of governance, strategy, data & insights as well as to provide continuous monitoring and quality control within the Global Finance - Reporting team / Chief Accountant's team.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Support execution of the mandate for the Chief Accountant's team; help enable change initiatives to drive engagement within the team and keep the Bank safe.
    • Support the development of analysis and approaches to measure performance and effectiveness for the department.
    • Structure a process to capture, help prioritize, and monitor for completion action items delegated by the Chief Accountant to members of the VP leadership team. This will include dashboard monitoring and setting up routine touch-bases for updates.
    • During period closes, help coordinate and enable resolution of open accounting, reporting and/or control issues on a timely basis.
    • Where necessary, act as a resource to escalate / address open items.
  • Provide direct support to the Chief Accountant on mini-projects and other ad-hoc requests.
    • Project manage ad-hoc mini-projects as they come up. This includes assessing effort needed and reaching out for assistance from within the Chief Accountant's team as needed.
    • Accessing the financial reporting systems to address ad-hoc queries made of the Chief Accountant, packaging the results, and providing insight / commentary / options / recommendations / a draft response for the Chief Accountant's consideration.
    • Manage and drive the consolidation of expense reporting for the department. This includes capturing expense plan / forecast details and generating actual to plan variance reporting on the consolidated results.
  • Manage activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Strong communication skills such as the ability to communicate a vision, analysis / findings and present ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong leadership skills and stewardship capabilities in a complex and changing environment. Requires the ability to cope with multiple priorities, quick turn-around times, and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and provide forward thinking recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of financial (IFRS) and management accounting standards. Ability to relate financial data and develop insights, identify issues and trends. Proven quantitative and financial analytical skills.
  • Highly adept in problem solving and managing conflict and stakeholder expectations.
  • Highly organized, able to work independently, with demonstrated experience in solving problems and making decisions in time pressured environments. This role requires the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure for sustained periods of time and multi-task effectively.
  • Strong team player with proven ability to work effectively with others to achieve common objectives. A strong customer focus and ability to initiate and implement change is required.
  • Strong understanding of external and internal reporting controls, processes and requirements.
