What is the opportunity?

An integral part of the Capital Measurement team within Financial Resource Optimization (FRO), you will advise on advanced and complex Regulatory capital calculations and provide guidance on credit risks methodologies with a focus on retail portfolios. The scope will include retail personal and small business products. Your primary focus will be to manage regulatory capital reporting on both monthly/quarterly production process and regulatory projects.

Reporting to the Director, Capital Measurement FRO, you will provide expertise on advanced and complex risk quantification methodologies and their implementation for the purpose of Regulatory Capital calculations, providing guidance enterprise wide across credit risks for designated portfolios and supporting regular, ad hoc and project activities that are focused primarily on retail portfolio. The functional mandates include reporting production, project implementation, analytics, control, and compliance.

You will act as a key source of business requirements, implementation and testing of risk capital projects including data inputs and mapping for the designated portfolios and risk types, and capital calculation. Responsibilities include the integrity and completeness of data flows into Regulatory Capital engine as well as for their alignment with RBC's financial reporting systems, reconciliation, validation, and controls for the designated portfolios. You will develop and provide value-added analysis to derive effective capital measurement specific business requirements pertaining to various aspects of RBC's retail portfolio.

What will you do?

  • Ensure comprehensive and detailed business requirements for the implementation of Basel Regulatory Capital calculations.
  • Validate data inputs, mapping as well as business rules are aligned with the underlying risk methodologies and OSFI regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and communicate with system development and monitor project execution.
  • Responsible for new project implementation and ongoing monthly/quarterly production operation of capital measurement with deliverables to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform User Acceptance Test (UAT) to verify risk capital results and prepare test cases.
  • Manage and deliver the results for OSFI's requests related to regulatory requirement (e.g. new Retail pooling model), support ad-hoc requests from internal and external audit, as well as provide analytical reporting needs for business platform.
  • Responsible for control and compliance relating to capital treatment, in particular capital report (BCAR, Pillar III, NCR) validation and variance analysis.
  • Perform Basel Compliance Self-Assessment Program and SOX control execution.
  • Develops, programs, and documents processes of medium complexity using various technical tools (e.g. SAS, SQL, Python, Excel)
  • Validate capital-related entries, resolve reconciliation issues, and provide input into drivers behind risk capital for portfolios within the mandate.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-Haves

  • Strong knowledge of credit risk capital treatment methodology, advanced quantitative techniques of risk measurement or parameter estimation supported by business experience, including Basel regulatory capital, OSFI Basel Capital Adequacy Reporting, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience in related fields, i.e. finance, analytics, risk management, etc.
  • Superior analytical and advanced data mining skills (relational databases, SQL, Excel, etc.)
  • Self-starter, independent with initiative in identifying and solving problems.
  • Collaborative and consultative team player
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Well proven ability to consistently deliver complex results against very tight deadlines.

Nice-to-Have

  • Knowledge of Basel III Reform and capital risk
  • University degree in analytical, quantitative area, combined with MBA or CFA designation.
  • Broad knowledge of RBC business and understanding of product ranges and structures in RBC for designated portfolios
  • Thorough knowledge of RBC's systems and infrastructure
