What is the opportunity?

Are you interested in working as a Platform Engineer on the WMTS- Data Platform Infrastructure Team in Technology & Operations at the Royal Bank of Canada?

RBC`s WMTS- Data Platform Infrastructure Team is responsible for the communication, collaboration, integration, automation, and providing a range of operational, business, technical, and system support & solutions to address business, sponsor & stakeholder needs and resolve day-to-day issues.

This role will provide expert technical and business support, hardware and operating system support and system integration support for existing platforms. You will collaborate with development, operations, and quality assurance teams on projects, upgrades and resolve technical issues while adhering to security compliance and following best practices. In addition, you will collaborate with upstream/downstream system consumers and services providers, 3rd party vendor partners, and operation partners.

What will you do?

  • Provide day to day support for Wealth Management Data applications platforms including Unix, Linux, Windows, Sybase, SQL Server, SingleStore (In Memory Distributed DB), MQ, Kafka, OpenShift, ELK, Hadoop, Connect Direct, DataStage.

  • Assist application development communities by building platform solutions, providing technical expertise and platform services.

  • Design and implement solutions for application teams thus leveraging Data platforms.

  • Develop automation programs to automate tasks, streamline processes, and improve efficiency.

  • Setup monitoring and alerts for the Data platforms to ensure stability and resiliency.

  • Leads Platform initiatives from end to end to ensure initiative will be completed successfully.

  • Take ownership of security patches and updates for operating systems and applications to ensure DMI platforms meet RBC security and compliance standards.

  • Develop, maintain, and update knowledge base documentation for the supported systems. This includes documenting troubleshooting steps, and best practices for issue resolution.

  • Explore opportunities to leverage automation tools and technologies to enhance support capabilities.

  • Actively participate in projects related to technology upgrades, system integrations, and process enhancements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management, contributing to the overall success of the WMTS- Data Platform Infrastructure Team and the organization.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Advanced knowledge, experience, and understanding of Unix, Linux & Windows operating systems. Linux & Unix administration knowledge and experience is preferred.

  • Public and Private cloud knowledge, skills and experiences with Azure, AWS, GCP, OpenShift, Dockers, Kubernetes, ELK.

  • Knowledge of SQL Server DB, MQ, Kafka, application monitoring tools (Dynatrace, Prognosis) and DevOps tools (Github, Jenkins etc).

  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities.

  • Knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as Python, SQL, JavaScript, etc.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of SSL/TLS Certificates, CN names, renewal, keystores, etc.

  • Development experience.

  • Solid understanding of general networking & SAN principles.

  • Experience with automating manual processes.

  • Financial institution knowledge.
