Who we're looking for:

Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, this position advises the business on regulatory compliance Bank Act-related obligations for all day-to-day implementations of new and/or changes to existing products, processes and controls. This role contributes to a strong risk management culture through collaboration with the first line and third line functions to ensure regulatory risks are identified, mitigated, monitored and reported on an ongoing basis.

What you'll do:

  • Provides advisory support via interpretation and advice on the application of the regulations specific to the Bank Act (e.g., requirements under the Financial Consumer Protection Framework) to the applicable Business Units (BU).

  • Participate in complex project/initiatives as the Compliance liaison to assist the BU in assessing regulatory risks. Reviews project documentation (business requirements, testing results, etc.) to assess if the proposed requirements / controls meet the regulatory requirements.

  • Supports in performing complex regulatory compliance gap analysis, including liaising with Legal in the interpretation of regulatory requirements (existing, new and emerging) and identifying, analyzing and addressing resultant gaps and issues.

  • Understands the regulatory risk exposures and supports the development of action plans required to mitigate identified risks.

  • Monitors industry and legislative developments and works with the respective BU's to implement applicable changes and oversight controls to ensure adherence.

  • Supports in the development of compliance training specific to the consumer provisions of the Bank Act.

  • Supports with the submission of reportable compliance issues to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) as required.

  • Supports with all FCAC regulator requests, audits, filings and reporting.

  • Develops and maintains an in-depth understanding of the applicable regulatory and internal risk management requirements.

  • Builds awareness, knowledge, and skills and, as necessary, provides communication, practical tools and ongoing support including making presentations, to promote a culture of regulatory requirements, risk identification and management.

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Develops and maintains an understanding of the BU strategies and objectives, products and services, internal and external stakeholders and business processes as well as the underlying infrastructure to identify and manage implications and regulatory risk exposures for the BU.

  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

What you bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in regulatory compliance management, advisory and internal controls.

  • Deep financial services industry knowledge, experienced in how independent risk functions work with business.

  • Significant knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to federally regulated financial institutions.

  • Significant knowledge of the Bank Act obligations and applicable codes and commitments overseen by the FCAC specific to deposit, investment and credit card products.

  • In-depth knowledge of business level processes (e.g., sales culture, sales practices, complaints handling governance, and related controls).

  • Highly developed analytical skills, with attention to detail.

  • In depth knowledge of data driven decision-making.

  • Ability to work autonomously, driving commitment and engagement throughout the business, acting as an owner and a hands-on partner.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization. Experience in presenting material for approval or review to all levels.

  • Degree in business, legal or related discipline. MBA, CA, CIA or other professional-related qualification would be an asset.

This is a hybrid work position and will require you to be in office three days per week. You can choose which days work best for you!
