The Summer Student (Junior System Engineer - Architecture) role will assist the Architecture team to identify and prototype the design of modules contributing to the exchange of health care information between health care providers and Ontario Health using industry standard development/design tools and software.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Work with the Architecture/development department to establish the system resources and access to a virtual infrastructure

  • Work with Architecture to design and then develop Proof of Concepts showing integration with Ontario Health services using any number of technologies.

  • Research and identify open-source software/libraries that can be used to support development of prototypes. Download, install and configure the product in lab environments to support development of prototypes.

  • Assist with the development/documentation of Ontario Health architectures using IT modeling tool(s).

  • Document the findings and any recommendations for reuse by future Ontario Health clients.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education:

  • Must be working towards a University or College diploma/degree in your 2nd or 3rd year of a relevant course of study - Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

Knowledge & Skills:

Technical Skills:

  • Software Development: Java, C#, HTML, Node.JS, Javascript, AngularJS, Kafka

  • OS: Linux, Windows

  • Application Servers: Tomcat, Apache, Websphere (or equivalent)

  • Database (RDBMS): MySQL, Oracle

  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift

  • Cloud: Azure, AWS

  • Familiarity with open-source community

  • Software design/modeling tools

Non-Technical Skills

  • Have in interest to learn and work independently

  • Do independent problem solving

  • have proven research and report-writing skills

  • possess excellent communication skills

Target End Date: August 29, 2025
