What is the opportunity?

In this role you will manage and develop a team of credit professionals overseeing the Non-Bank Financial Institution portfolio as a designated industry sector and manage an assigned portfolio of Credit Transaction Management (CTM)-managed clients. You will be responsible for working with Global Markets, Corporate Banking, and other groups to facilitate and enhance the credit process through efficient and value-add support to partners, including onboarding activities, execution of new transactions, amendments, and extensions; manage a full range of Capital Markets products, with a focus on Lending/ Non-Trading products, compliant funding, excess management, and annual reviews. You will resolve credit issues with various banking units and Group Risk Management WCR and CCR as required, and provide advice as warranted. You will partner with the various businesses in RBC Capital Markets to (i) identify and recommend suitable counterparties; (ii) facilitate the credit process including evaluating and screening requests and preparing OneDoc submissions, transaction requests and Single Name Strategies, and (iii) coordinate the documentation process, including structuring appropriate credit mitigation.

What will you do?

  • Lead, develop and train a high performing team in which the members produce insightful, high-quality work on a timely basis, managing their assigned portfolios in accordance with policies and procedures within the approved credit process.
  • Work closely and maintain positive relationships with Corporate Banking, Global Markets, Ratings & Monitoring, Loan Portfolio Management, and with other areas of the bank, notably Group Risk Management, Global Loans Administration, Global Treasury, Global Services, the Global Banking Business Centre back-office support group, and Agency Services.
  • Ensure timely preparation of (i) transaction requests (which may include but not limited to new credits, restructurings, renewals, waivers, loan documentation review, establishing lines for mainly lending products and cash management, regularizing ETRs, indicative risk ratings); (ii) annual reviews of assigned portfolio and ensuring the data integrity of CCMS.
  • For CTM-managed accounts, where applicable, fulfill responsibilities as account manager of record and relationship manager for Single Names and act as the primary point of contact. Responsibilities include timely submission of transaction requests including business head submission and Single Name strategies (as applicable). Submissions should include a recommendation on the credit quality, identification of risks, proposed mitigation as well as identification of relevant standing orders and any exceptions to policies. Manager is also responsible for initiating appropriate documentation negotiation (i.e., ISDA order form) and participating in Loan doc reviews and coordinating client communication.
  • Managers should have a view on the credit and transaction risks and help identify potential deteriorating risk situations and recommend a course of action in consultation with business partners, R&M, Group Risk Management Counterparty Credit Risk (GRM CCR), and Group Risk Management Wholesale Credit Risk (GRM WCR).
  • Use bank policies/guidelines and judgement to manage daily excesses, over-limit payments in accordance with Delegated Authorities and, managing ongoing credit relationships within RBC providing fair, specific and balanced advice. Coaching employees on proper use of Delegated Authorities.
  • Keep up with policy changes/updates and managing regulatory/audit priorities with respect to team deliverables. Conduct necessary spot checks to ensure quality of work and identify learning opportunities.
  • Completion of assigned projects and other duties (including presenting to key stakeholders) efficiently and effectively in order to support the team meet planned and unplanned demands. Preparation and reporting of portfolio statistics and other management information reports in a timely and accurate manner (as applicable).
  • Provide Regular feedback and coaching on employee performance and progress against goals, including career conversations. Support identification and development of high potential talent and provide differentiated developmental opportunities.

What you need to succeed?

Must Have's

  • Academic background with a combination of Bachelor's level accreditation and/or other professional designation or relevant work experience.
  • Lending/Credit or Risk management experience (5 -7 years); Strong background in banking generally.
  • People management skills.
  • Please note this is a hybrid role with the expectation of being In Office at least 2 to 3 Business days per week.

Nice to have's

  • Academic background with a combination of Masters level accreditation: usually an MBA, CFA, CA, other
  • professional designation or relevant work experience.
  • Lending/Credit or Risk management experience (3- 5 years); Strong background in banking generally.
