The Specialist contributes to the overall success of the Workplace Accommodation team delivering the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are following governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Provide expertise and guidance regarding simple to moderate complexity workplace accommodation requests while partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a safe and timely accommodation implementation related to onboarding, performance of job responsibilities and return to work. Provides expertise on proactive ergonomics solutions.

Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Strengthen role as a trusted advisor and works collaboratively across departments/business lines to cultivate long-term customer relationships. Stay abreast of emerging customer needs through a variety of sources.
Understand, educates and communicates the legislative requirements, accommodation practices and principles and legal risks associated with accommodation issues and initiates discussions of pertinent facts and issues with all appropriate stakeholders.
Communicate and interacts effectively with internal and external stakeholders throughout the accommodation process by providing advice/recommendations to appropriately respond to occupational health and safety concerns, legal risk(s) and/or operational efficiencies.
Receive, evaluate and address employee accommodation requests and validates associated documentation while consulting with the Employee and Manager to ensure reasonable and appropriate accommodation. Facilitates the implementation of accommodation requirements. Consults with Employee's Manager regarding the accommodation request to ensure understanding and compliance. Responds to barriers by adjusting ineffective strategies and using new approaches (i.e., trial and error of solutions available).
Engage and collaborate with third-party providers, where applicable, to obtain necessary assessments, information and equipment. Investigates and escalates employee concerns relative to service.
Strengthen relationships with others and takes the lead in involving key stakeholders. Strengthens credibility by consistently championing the team's ideas and to audiences within the Bank.
Manage vendor relationships to ensure service quality, delivery and SLA's are met.
Analyze quarterly reports provided by third-party vendors. Provides and completes root cause and trend analyses to identify improvement opportunities (i.e. develop tips, tools and resources for a pro-active approach to decrease injury risk and improve employee well-being and experience).
Track accommodation expenses processed through the central accommodation budget. Vet and facilitate payment of accommodation related expenses. Provide year-end metrics to senior management for budget projections for the upcoming fiscal year.
Manage the Scotiabank Ergonomics Portal on Scotiabank Live. Lead initiatives to manage quality content, respond to inquiries/feedback and overall improve efficiencies and marketing.
Lead initiatives to improve process efficiencies by developing and updating supporting documents based on industry best practices.
Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursue effective and efficient operations within his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
Post-secondary Degree, Certification or Designation in Disability Management, or Occupational Health
Strong knowledge of legislation (Human Rights, AODA, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations) and Occupational Health & Safety topics
Strong knowledge in ergonomics an asset (design review, reviewing causality reports, etc.)
Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements on workplace accommodation and HR policies and procedures
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with demonstrated expertise in interacting with all levels of management
Strong knowledge in interviewing, negotiation, influencing & mediating skills
Strong relationship building and influencing skills to develop and maintain effective partnering relationships with key stakeholders
Demonstrate effective time management and priority setting skills
Demonstrate sound judgment, flexibility, resourcefulness and problem-solving capabilities
Solid knowledge of computer systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Case Management Systems)
Bilingualism is an asset
