Position Title: AVP, Individual Marketing
Reports To: Executive Vice-President, Individual Insurance

Term: Permanent Full-Time


Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

As a mutual, Equitable is focused exclusively on our clients. The AVP, Individual Marketing is responsible for ensuring that Equitable's Individual Insurance division remains client centered, and client focused on our products, financial solutions, and client experiences.

Additionally, this individual is a key leader for the Individual Insurance division and a member of our Individual Leadership Team, responsible for key market activities.

What you will be doing:

  • Conducting market research on emerging market trends, client needs and key market activities.
  • Identifying Equitable's target market segments and distribution channels.
  • Leading the development of a complex Individual Insurance product shelf that aligns with our strategy and distribution network. Executing the go-to-market strategy for new product launches.
  • Designing the client Journey from financial planning, to illustration, policy delivery to claim, in partnership with Operations, ensuring digital assets and service models align with our target markets and desired client experience and journey.
  • Ensuring that products and experiences align with Equitable's vision for the Fair Treatment of Clients, meeting and exceeding regulatory requirements.
  • Owning the design and experience for digital assets, including electronic applications, digital illustrations and advisor and client web portals.
  • Developing, writing and designing client and advisor communications which align with brand, market segments and desired client experience and journey.
  • Collaborating and coordinating with leaders from Distribution, Pricing, Underwriting, Operations, Finance, Technology, Corporate Marketing & Digital and Creative services & other internal teams for the successful implementation and delivery of exceptional products and client experiences.
  • Managing several strategic & complex external vendor relationships including illustration system vendors, marketing technology, digital providers, ancillary product offerings etc.
  • Developing and implementing a variety of marketing strategies through various channels including but not limited to product and service marketing, marketing communications, sales support concepts, digital and social media.
  • Developing and implementing sales strategies highlighting needs-based client outcomes achieved through the financial solutions we offer.
  • Participating in sales training and National Sales meetings for National Sales Directors in addition to delivering educational conferences and educational credits for advisors.
  • Working closely with Sales/Distribution and Operations on key strategic relationships - leveraging MGA & National Accounts platforms, Prestige Programs etc. to market Equitable's financial solutions.
  • Represent Equitable externally at conferences, speaking engagements, through marketing solutions, social media etc.


What you will bring:

  • University Degree - Minimum Bachelor of Business, Commerce or relevant field
  • Minimum of 10 - 15 years insurance or financial services experience
  • Minimum 5+ years product marketing leadership experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of digital and user experience design
  • Exceptional communication, presenting and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Individual Life and Health products
  • Exceptional leadership skills - both direct & indirect leadership - with strong relationship management and ability to negotiate both internally and externally
  • Creative and dynamic marketer - with proven experience & results leveraging a variety of mediums
  • Results oriented with a focus on data for the purpose of measuring success and client outcomes
  • Excellent strategic thinking, planning and decision-making skills
  • Some understanding of actuarial principles and product pricing
  • Strong vendor management
