Job Description:


The Fund Accountant reports to the Manager, Segregated Funds Financial Management, Group Retirement Services (GRS) Finance, who is responsible for the daily operations of the cash communication, trade verification, reconciliations and valuation of the 500+ Segregated Funds offered by GRS. This role will be based in Waterloo.

What will you do?

  • Contribute to the daily Fund Operational and Fund Valuation process

  • Run accounting reports and journal entries, check log reports for exceptions and investigate issues

  • Run various reports from PAM to investigate issues and for reporting purposes

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly reconciliations and investigate reconciling items

  • Perform daily trade verification with external Fund Manager and work together to resolve operational issues

  • For evening valuations investigate pricing delays with Fund Managers

Special requirement:

  • The Fund Accountant must be flexible to work, on rotation with other team members, from 12pm-8pm to cover the Valuation Shift

What do you need to succeed?

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, reconciliations and financial reporting skills

  • Self-motivated, innovative and adaptable

  • Attention to detail and an aptitude for risk/control process management

  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Adobe) with proficiency to manage large data sets systematically and efficiently

Assets:

  • Business knowledge and experience related to Mutual Funds and/or Segregated Funds Industry

  • Strong understanding of compliance and oversight functions

  • Well organized, willing to work within tight deadlines

  • Studying towards an accounting designation is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
