Purpose of Job
The Custom Solutions Architect will lead the architectural design of new applications for Lightspeed System Operations. These applications will integrate Lightspeed network management and network control with other Lightspeed systems such as Satellites, User Terminals, Landing Stations, and Terrestrial Network. Custom solutions will support, for example, special terminals or other types of equipment, and special modes of operation developed for specific customers and that may diverge from the main applications in Lightspeed. In some cases, the Custom Solutions Architect will contribute to adapting these new applications for general availability.
Main Responsibilities
Develop in-depth knowledge of the Lightspeed LEO constellation requirements, architecture and design specifications.
Develop in-depth knowledge of the System Operations Software requirements, architecture and design specifications, including network management and network control.
Create technical architecture and design specifications that will drive new solutions to success and provide a seamless customer experience, while maintaining a view of scope, timeline, and budget.
Collaborate with other Lightspeed Architects, participate in the design activities of other segments, and contribute to the refinement and evolution of the whole system architecture.
Lead the implementation of new solutions into robust, highly-available, fault-tolerant, production-grade, real-time systems.
Provide thought leadership and guidance on resolving complex implementation and solution issues.
Identify and mitigate implementation risks through technical best practices.
Manage technical aspects of network operations and control systems procurement, from RFP definition, through evaluation of proposals, proofs of concept, detailed designs, implementation, testing and finally operational support.
Review and approve design and development solution documents, internal and external test strategies, plans and scripts.
Execute modeling, costing and trade analysis.
Educate teams on new solutions, best practices, and industry trends.
Education & Experience Required
Bachelor's degree in telecommunications, network engineering, software engineering or equivalent practical experience.
At least 10 years of relevant industry experience working in satellite communication, network engineering or software engineering, with at least 5 years in an architect position.
Experience in satellite or wireless telecommunications, LEO operations, mobile terminals, modems, antennas.
Experience with element management systems, network management systems, and operations support systems.
Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering tools and methodologies such as Capella and Arcadia.
Solid knowledge of NMS protocols and modelling languages such as: NETCONF/RESTCONF, gRPC/gNMI, gNOI, YANG, UML.
Familiarity with one of NMS tools and platforms such as Netcracker Digital OSS, ONAP, Ciena Blue Planet, Amdocs
Knowledge in Carrier Ethernet technologies, standards, and protocols.
Knowledge in IP technologies, standards, and protocols.
Familiarity with TMForum Open Digital Architecture (ODA), Process Framework (eTOM), and TMForum APIs.
Familiarity with CloudEvents, OpenMetrics, Openflow, ONF TAPI, and Information Framework (SID).[SM1]
Knowledge of MEF Lifecycle Service Orchestration (MEF LSO APIs) framework.
Familiarity with virtualization, multi-tenant cloud infrastructures and distributed storage systems.
Highly motivated and able to independently drive projects to completion.
Creative problem-solving skills and strong analytical skills.
Strong written and oral English communication skills.
Decision Making & Supervision
This role requires making recommendations and decisions which will have significant influence on the network operations and control solution of the Telesat Lightspeed network.
This role requires contributions as an individual and a team member. While the role has no direct reports, it is a technical leader role.
