Description

We are a unique practice in the Canadian marketplace that focuses on the development of new insurance solutions, and optimization of existing insurance solutions for Affinity program sponsors. These programs are targeted at large customer or membership bases of clients whose core business is not always insurance (e.g. banks and other financial institutions, retailers, associations, hospitality providers and others). Solutions are positioned to be complementary to the core services or product offerings of these Affinity organizations and the associated strategies that they employ to achieve key objectives of customer/member engagement, optimized customer experience, and revenue and business growth. Through our work, we are constantly challenging the market status quo.

We are seeking an aspiring actuarial analyst that will be integrated into a broader team of Affinity consulting professionals where foundational elements of client strategy, customer engagement and operations are complemented by core analytics delivered through the actuarial component of our practice. You will be on the front lines of insurance strategy development, product development / enhancement, new business development, and exposed to a variety of lines of insurance business, clients, and unique solutions supporting an ever-evolving marketplace. As an actuarial analyst in our practice, you will be a key resource in helping to prepare and reconcile data, develop and maintain key models and assist the consulting teams on a range of activities.

The ideal candidate can work well in teams to support our consulting mandates and can also work independently with appropriate guidance. This includes assisting more senior colleagues with projects related to key insurance lines of business in the market including travel insurance, embedded credit card insurance, personal home & auto insurance, and life and health insurance solutions. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in WTW's study program in pursuit of a professional actuarial designation through a recognized actuarial professional association such as the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) or Society of Actuaries (SOA). This position has a significant upward growth trajectory to support client consulting on a prospective basis.

The Role:

  • Provide actuarial and analytics support on various insurance business lines and programs.
  • Participate in consulting mandates by providing support on pricing and loss reserving analysis, analysis of profit-sharing arrangements, financial forecasting and scenario modeling, claims analyses, dashboard reporting, industry benchmarking, and other ad hoc analysis.
  • Support to actuarial and non-actuarial consultants on both technical and program strategy issues can include data reconciliation and compilation, production of reports, presentations, summary analyses, client and third-party communications etc.
  • Leverage technical skills to assist with the streamlining of processes, increasing efficiencies and providing additional perspectives on tackling challenging actuarial and analytical problems.
  • Development of analysis to support strategic recommendations related to bidding processes for partner relationships on behalf of our clients.
  • Assist with other research and presentation material for new client prospects.

Qualifications

The Requirements

  • A University degree in actuarial science, mathematics or statistics
  • Pursuing a professional designation through the exams of a recognized actuarial professional association
  • Highly organized, resourceful and excellent attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Effective and efficient time management skills; ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and work independently
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience with using the Microsoft suite, most particularly with Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with manipulating and summarizing large data sets using R, Python, SQL or similar programming languages

Other Valuable Candidate Assets

  • Experience with summarizing and illustrating data using dashboard reporting tools like PowerBI
  • Experience with personal insurance programs
  • Fluency in French
