Job Description:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President (AVP), Enterprise Compliance Governance (EC), this role is responsible for the ongoing development, enhancement and maintenance of enterprise-wide Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) methodologies. The Director, RCM Methodologies is a member of the Enterprise Compliance Governance leadership team and a critical member of the Global Compliance Operations (GCO) team as it will ensure that Sun Life's RCM program is robust, flexible, fit-for-purpose, and aligned to regulatory expectations and stakeholder effectiveness and efficiencies.

You will work with multiple partners across global and local compliance teams, first line management and Corporate Functional Areas (CFA) to make certain that key standards are understood, as well as collaborate with other members of GCO to ensure the standards are being consistently applied across the organization. You will maintain all global RCM manuals and standards, and will support the management of local compliance team and CFA program documentation.

You have extensive financial services experience, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements as they impact large and complex organizations like Sun Life. You also excel in implementing transformational initiatives that introduce organizational change, while taking a risk-based approach to standardization and fit-for-purpose outcomes. As a member of the EC team, you will demonstrate high personal and professional standards, act with integrity, and in good faith for the best interests of Sun Life, role-model leader capabilities and values, and operate with intention in order to meet the Compliance Functions' Purpose of Enabling Business through Robust Oversight and Advisory, with Speed and no Surprises.

What will you do?

  • Support the AVP in setting and evolving the strategy and operating model for the RCM Program.
  • Adhere to, and where required, develop and maintain overall governance and control frameworks to ensure adherence to RCM Program elements (Regulatory Change, Risk Assessment, Issues Management, etc.) across the first and second lines of defence.
  • Lead the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of RCM methodologies for Business Group and CFA compliance programs.
  • In collaboration with the Enterprise Compliance Technology & Analytics team, support the prioritization and development of Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) Tool workflows, processes, and associated guidance, ensuring that RCM elements are operating as described within the tool.
  • In collaboration with the Enterprise Reporting team, develop and maintain Key Risk Indicators (KRI) to quantitatively inform the global and local Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) quarterly reports.
  • Work with methodology owners from Risk and Audit to support the evolution of global enterprise risk management integration.
  • Represent Sun Life on cross-functional projects and industry committees and forums.

What do you need to succeed?

  • University degree; preferably in law, finance or other relevant degree, and 10+ years of progressive experience within the financial services sector in Compliance, Risk or other oversight function.
  • Experience working in an OSFI-regulated environment, with alignment to a three lines of defence model.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management principles as they apply to financial services, including insurance, wealth and asset management.
  • Experience leading large projects (or providing consulting services), preferably related to risk and control management.
  • Self-motivation and proactive nature, with strong problem-solving abilities to effectively prioritize in a diverse and fast paced environment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with a proven ability to build trusted partnerships and negotiate and influence a variety of internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated technology literacy and its application to elevate a compliance program.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate verbally and in writing to senior levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of the role of a GRC Tool in facilitating an RCM Program; experience with RSA Archer is an asset.

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
